I'm just an engineer and a hack welder, but two immediate comments:

    1) You need drains in that frame boxing. Otherwise it will fill with water/mud and rot from the inside. There is a reason toyota made these frame "C" channel instead of boxed. Look at the way rock rings have drains to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

    2) That's not a problem now, but without cleaning it all off, then treating with a rust converter, then priming and painting it will be a total clusterfuck in a few years.

Bonus thought: someone is going to have a shitty afternoon with a sand blaster making this right.

You're most likely just going to have to to finish the welding after wire wheeling it - you want to see real rust here's some real rust haha - 08 springs on a truck in Maine. I almost said the stealership was telling a tall tale when my dad told me they told him the coilovers "broke"

Even coastal California doesn't have significant issues. My truck was one of the worst CA trucks I ever came across (from Sac). Nothing like the rust belt thankfully. That said, being preventative is always smart of course.

Been probably 6-8 times so far.

Next time you have it aligned have them bump up the castor some. Closer to 4.5-5* or more per your liking will help off road handling/ tracking.

Anyone know of a fabricator in or near the Bay Area that can set up a spring under and a basic bed cage/suspension on a 1st gen Tacoma?
    Thanks!

@Gatordawg i would hit up TC and see if they have any shops up there they supplied parts to from back in the day when lots of people were building first gens. Any decent shop should be able to figure it out with enough information, but it’s obviously smoother with a handful under their belts. Is coming to SoCal out of the question - there’s a lot of shops to pick from.

Give them a ring and see what they say. Only a handful of people running that axle so hopefully they’ve heard of the issue and can either send parts to fix it or steer you in the right direction.

Looking for stock long bed bedsides if anyone has any around. MGM preferably but doesn’t really matter.
Let me know if you have any you want to get rid of.
