What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

No, I installed the bolt as it came out. Ideally I'll only have to change the UCA's once. I would say the parts of the job that are most difficult is getting past the wiring harness on both inside fenderwells (patience and look at it often) and installing the inner washers (pry bar on the bushing and frame) if your UCA's use a washer there (JBA UCA's do). Still that long bolt was 5 minutes a side. Start to finish was about an hour at a slow pace for both sides including jacking up the truck and the wheels/tires.

 

Reading all these people pissing and moaning about UCAs installs has me dreading the day I eventually install mine. What is actually getting "bent" Anyone have any pics?

 

I did it the easy way, just cut off the old bolts and reinstalled the new ones backwards. No bending and had them swapped out in less than an hour...

I grease mine regularly, so there's no way I'm not going to notice a loose bolt that could potentially fall out (which is the biggest "concern" with them going the opposite way).

 

It's really not a big deal at all. The area is about 3 inches long and needs to be bent less than a 1/2". I forgot to bend the passenger side back it looks like (lol) so here's a picture of the area that was bent on mine. Don't bend yours in the exact same area as mine because I guarantee you our trucks are different, just start removing the bolt and bend yours where it needs it. You can barely see the wiring harness that's in the way on the inside fenderwell, just take your time getting the bolt past that harness. It's an easy job really.

One of several reasons I got JBA UCA's is so I wouldn't have to grease them regularly and would be closer to stock maintenance requirements. No uniballs to squeak (as uniballs were designed to do!).

 

Thats the general consensus i hear of inserting the bolt from the bottom. If it works, it works.

 

But it's not difficult to bend it so why? Cutting the bolts requires new bolts. Putting the new bolts in backwards means they can fall out. Seems like more work and more money and more risk than bending sheet metal and simply watching what you're doing.

 

Simplest answer: because I didn't feel like it lol, read too many horror stories about it being a huge pain in the ass to bend the sheet metal

 

New pads, rotors, drums and brake shoes. Rear passenger brake cylinder. Brake fluid flush as well. New bearing on one of the idler pulleys. Durobump bump stops up front. 285 75 16 Patagonia Milestars. 2.5” extended travel kings with clickers and resi’s up front. Waiting on icon leaf pack to do rear suspension install with u bolt flip kit and timbren bump stops. Getting a custom 2.5” y-pipe to 3” exhaust with a 19’ RAM muffler installed as we speak. TC skid going on when done. Alignment later this afternoon. @SOS CONCEPTS sliders will be installed hopefully in the next week or two. CMC by @marinemonkey on Wednesday. Infinity speakers and sound deadening to be installed hopefully sometime this week.

Oh and she got an oil change, got to use the Fumoto drain valve for the first time and literally didn’t need any tools to change the oil nor did I spill a drop of oil

What you are bending is what i have circled. Now i have cut my factory tray out but you can see where i had to pound on it to get it out... The passenger side is easier since it doesn't have quite as much sheet metal to hold it all in shape. It is a pain but once you get it bent to shape you can leave it for future use. Also you can grind back the flange next to one flat of the bolt in order to make it slightly easier to reinstall. But as some have stated putting the bolt in backwards is kinda looked down upon because if the bolt ever came loose it could potentially fall out..... But as long as you are greasing the UCA bushings regularly and re torquing correctly then you would honestly be fine.

 

thanks man, she’s my pride and joy!! I believe right around 121,000, I’ve put almost 30k miles on it just this year. Got it a year ago today with 94k miles on it...

 

Truck looks great. I am waiting on the Icon RXT leaf pack as well. Have the u-bolt/timbren bumpstops ready for it.

Not something I wanted to do, but I had a monster howl coming from my driver side wheel bearing. Decided to change both hubs while I was at it. Being a prerunner made it a breeze.

 

Finished wiring up my solar with a charge controller thanks to @05prerun82 .

Pretty happy with it.

 

Next thing we'll see Brian lowering his truck and adding ground effect lighting for racer night at the Quaker Steak & Lube!!
