I just bought a 2020 TRD Off Road Premium & my 2017 Dodge Minivan has a much high resolution & crisper image on its back up camera! At first I thought maybe there was a protective shipping film that was over the camera lenses, but it doesn’t feel like there is.

Anyone else find this annoying - Has this been an issue in previous years as well?

Yeah the Toyota cameras have never been good. My ‘17 gets the job done, but it’s awful compared to the dodge cameras

Same here. My wife's 2015 outback has a clearer and more vibrant image from the backup camera. My 2018 Tacoma is more washed out and grainy. Looks like Toyota uses a cheaper/smaller camera sensor. It gets the job done but could be clearer I think.

It’s a Toyota thing...my 16 Lexus IS350 is just as bad as the Taco’s. Meanwhile the one on my wife’s new Honda Pilot may as well be a 4K TV

I’ve replaced my head unit 3 times and found that aftermarket head units using the factory camera all had better images. The Sony head unit had the best picture by far...even though the rest of the head unit was crap.

Nice to know I’m not alone in my surprise & disappointment. Oh, well, guess it can’t be “the perfect truck”, Dodge Grand Caravan definitely wins in the camera quality section.

Also have to look at the screen resolution of the OEM radio. You can get a better camera, but the resolution on the radio will hold you back.

I'm thinking after a new head unit and a new camera, but I would like to keep the stock camera location.

What's ironic here is that I drive a 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan for work, and the imagine quality of the backup camera sucks! I drove my uncle's 2017 AC TRD Sport 2WD (first and so far only 3rd Gen I've ever driven), and found the backup camera to be of good quality. However, one thing I've never gotten used to is that the factory backup cameras in all pickup trucks are in the tailgate and slanted downward; By comparison, I've got an aftermarket Clarion backup camera installed in my 2010 base model RC, and it is better than backup cameras in both my dad's 2018 GMC Yukon and my mom's 2013 Nissan Murano. My backup camera is also mounted above the license plate instead of in the tailgate handle. I would agree that aftermarket backup cameras are generally of better quality than factory ones.
