Has anyone ever said it'd be done for 2k or less?

2k less than Magnuson. Sorry for the confusion. I believe Matt tentatively priced these at $4495 or something along there.

5k is a deal but i would be interested to see how bad the install is. SC install is straight forward

He's said it can be done in a garage/driveway with basic hand tools

He posted about install difficulty, I forget what he said, but what I got was 6 or 7 out of 10? I forget though so don't hold me to it.

So the $2k savings will just be lost in install cost. I'll stick with Magnuson, a warranty, and not tapping my oil pan. I can't wait to see someone push a 3rd gen to 500+hp though which will be significantly easier with OVTune's setup I'm guessing.

I don’t have skin in the game, but I think the largest deciding factor will be CARB approval for the Cali crew.

Magnuson will be CARB approved. OVTune most likely won't. It cost big money and time to get CARB approval.

Are you planning on going turbo? Please document if you do. I wish OVTune or someone would make a new turbo thread. I want to know more about what's happening with it, but I'm not going to go through the whole thing looking for the relevant details, and cause I'm going SC. I just like reading about people doing cool shit.

I will... eventually. I got too many irons in the fire at the moment. I'm sure he'll start a new thread with detailed install info once it's ready for prime time. If u go the thread, u can follow Matt's posts by just using the arrows right about the multi quote button. It'll go in order, of all his posts.

Damn...that's way cheaper than I thought they would ever be able to manage. I was expecting twice that.

That is an incredible apples to oranges comparison. The boosted mass of 2nd and 1st Gen tacos are supercharged NOT turbocharged. Look, at the end of the day there are some major factors you must decide on for forced induction because not all FI is created equal.

Do you want reliability? Yes? Go supercharged

Do you want higher boost output with a sacrafice of reliability? Yes? Go turbo.

There is a reason why all of the turbo cars of yesteryear (Mitsubishi Eclipse GST GSX, Lancer Evolution 9, 3000GT VR4, older Subaru WRX, STI models, Acura RDX Turbo etc. etc.) are now slim pickings in trying to find if you are looking to buy them used... They all broke and their repairs costed so much that their owners decided to give them up and move on to more fruitful, more than likely more reliable ventures. A turbo vehicle is destined to be a project vehicle even if it is bought brand new off the showroom floor by you and unless you are okay with constantly wrenching on your vehicle (which defeats the purpose of the legendary reliability that has been Toyota and Tacoma) then you are better off going with a supercharger as the boost is introduced through different means, more reliably.

Not only that, turbos should have no business towing, with their boost temps as hot as they are, during extended severe duty activities like towing, you have a chance of burning a valve due to their extremely hot gas output temperatures from their outlet which feeds the engine.

That's just my two cents. Take it for what it is worth.

No turbos for towing? Tell that to ecoboost owners and diesel owners....
