Not that I haven't done that before..

But other people have educated me for not living in the OVtune threads.

Doesn't locking the converter generate a bunch of heat? Curious about transmission temps. I could be way wrong though.

I think it's the opposite. Locked up converter means you're not relying on the oil for torque transfer. Less heat

I highly doubt the turbos will get hot enough while OffRoad to risk blowing up from a sudden cool down while crossing some water

    locked converter = less heat.
Also transmission temp is in that graph.

170 is surprisingly well. I hit 242 idiling in this wretched AZ heat.

Am I reading this correctly? Magenta and cyan lines are two turbo'd runs while the red line is stock?
What's up with the stock run? Why is it so janky sub 3500 rpm? Is that a gear shift?

On stock tune you can't floor it under 3500 rpm or it will downshift, so we made the best run that we could.

Fair enough. Will be interesting to see the low RPM comparison with an MT truck.

I bet in 3rd at like 40mph, full throttle would be way too fun.

Yeah no doubt. I ventured over here because of your post in that other thread. Your post and my following handful of clicks may end up being quite costly. The gains/price ratio seems monstrous. Panning out to be far more tempting than I ever expected possible in the early days of development.

So basically 450 lb ft of torque at 1350 rpm? Am I reading this right? o_O

Likely a little bit less, there is some correction due to temp, and also torque converter tuning at play here to make this happen.

I need to correct my post. This was achieved with an unlocked converter.
Fully locked torque is much flatter, but less, below 2000rpm

HP is at 322 on the initial dyno.... Will that increase with TC locked? I know these trucks are pretty fast once you get into the power band, so I'm guessing the increased torque down low will make it quicker off the line.

My understanding is that unlocked the TC will generate heat and waste energy but you get a torque multiplication effect similar to being in 4LO. The engine is spinning faster than the transmission input from the torque converter.

when it’s mechanically locked it’s transmitting power straight through with no inefficiency, but as the engine and tranny are physically locked together you don’t get the slip and rpm increase with unlocked TC.

I think it'll be just fine. The torque on that graph is down so low that the HP is still relatively low. Even if we exaggerate the numbers and say the truck makes 800ft/lbs at 1300RPMs, it's still only 200hp (RPM×TQ÷5252=hp). I think the current low end numbers should make the truck very fun while still being easy to control.

Looking forward to seeing the next update after more tuning.:cool::cool:

Go ahead and buy yourself a stick shift Tacoma soon ... right after the doc clears you to use that arm :D.
