Replacement Fastener/Bolt Kit

Is there a kit out there with common nuts/bolts/fasteners for 1st gen Tacomas? I ask because going through my truck, I see all kinds of nuts and bolts that look like they've seen better days and I wouldnt mind replacing them.

Does such a thing exist?

 

Bumping this... anybody know of a kit like this? Preparing for a frame swap and expect to break every bolt on the truck.

 

I have seen some crazy expensive not worth the money.

You want JIS** Bolts in M8 M10 M12 all 1.25 thread pitch

M6x1.0 is also a good size to have Nuts the same size

I have a bolt bin so a decent assortment in lengths.

Toyota Hardware I think is quite Reasonable in price.

Bel-Metric is a decent vendor

I'm sure there are "kits" out there but honestly they are a waste of money. They are stupid expensive, and they always just seem to have a bunch of stuff you never need. It's like someone just threw a random assortment of sizes in there with no regard for how many of each size might be needed, or the "common" ones to get lost/broken (I've never lost or broken a bolt on the trail, btw....)

Ace Hardware is where I get most of my hardware from. They generally have TONS of metric grade 10.9 stuff in all sorts of sizes.

Just get under the truck and take inventory of what you think you'll want to replace, then replace them as you go.

I'm preparing for a frame swap ATM and have access to a shop but will be trying to get this done as fast as possible and thus getting all my ducks in a row before I start. Was hoping someone had already done the inventory part but looks like I'll have to do that step myself.

 

Yeah, I'm not sure I've ever seen one. If you have a factory service manual, that might have the info you need.

Tat said, careful organization during tear down will likely save you more time/effort than going thru the manual and trying to figure out every possible bolt to replace.

I'd just get a few of those briefcase style parts organizers ($10 for a pair of them at home depot) and label everything as it comes off, and use one case for "need to replace" and the other(s) for reusable. Then take that case to Ace (or where ever) and match them 1:1.

I dunno, just an idea...

 

great idea, that's probably what I'll end up doing, got plenty of those organizers laying around. By the looks of this truck most of the hardware will be "need to replace"

 

As one who has a weekly order from McMaster- Carr They do not Have JIS Bolts and you may run into clearance issues with the bolt heads and nuts

 

I can only Guess Your ACE hardware stores stock JIS Bolts in your part of the world Here in Pa they did not even want to look if they could be ordered .

Funny as they just built a distribution center about 40 miles away

 

I bought a boxful of used misc Toyota/lexus nuts and bolts on EBay... I dig through them all the time....

 

I doubt they stock JIS specific stuff, but they stock plenty of metric 10.9 and lower grade stuff. Stainless, black oxide, zinc, hex, button head, even a few torx. For the majority of hardware, that's all you really need. I found my balljoint to spindle bolts there (identical head design even) for like $0.50 a piece.

You're not going to find cylinder head bolts there, though... Now that I tihnk of it, you can probably even find a replacement bolt for the diff filler (just might not be an identical match).
