OK, so I'm a dumb chick , but how do you take off the air intake to clean the throttle body? We are having trouble getting everything loose. Please explain step-by-step! Thanks so much for your help!

Your 99 should have the same system as my 01, there are a set of 4 metal clips at the 4 corners. You just push up on the clips and unsnap them, then the top of the airbox lifts off. Welcome to Tacoma world, and since you're a female you're sure to get LOTS of responses. If I asked this question I'd get "use the search" or maybe just a shrug:)

No, I want to get the throttle body cleaned. we loosen the screws that hold on the hose right there, but then what? we can't get the hose pulled off. is there something else there we're supposed to be loosening?
    Thanks!

Oh, got it, sorry I misunderstood. So you're trying to take the air intake tube off to get to the throttle plate, right? It's still easiest to take off the airbox first. I do it but I'm sure others might tell you other ways:
    1. unplug the MAF sensor and take the top off the air box.
    2. disconnect the air intake from the airbox
    3. loosen the clamp at the throttle body and rotate/pull the intake tube, it'll come off you just need to loosen the clamp a lot first.

You can probably do it by just loosening the one clamp but I think it's just easier to take it all off.
