Thank god for the image caption. For a moment I thought I was looking at a gray whale mother with her calf.

Metallics with a clearcoat are hardest to color match after repair. Older gen white and black Toyota paint was ‘single stage’ (no clearcoat) so it is easier to buff and fill scratches without clearcoat interfering with you directly manipulating the pigment coat. You can get a 4oz bottle of color matched single stage paint from a body shop for $20 and use a harbor freight airbrush to keep the pigment coat perfect for the long term. Having a clearcoat makes touch ups take a lot longer and cost more if you are touching up with a 2k clear on top.

Also white tends to hide dents and doesn’t show dirt as much as darker colors. White pigment is titanium dioxide, which is a stable oxide since titanium has only one principal oxidation state. Silver and red use pigment metals including iron which have multiple oxidation states and are therefore less chemically stable in the long term. E.g. iron has a +2 and a +3 oxidation state which is why environmental oxidation of iron has multiple colors spanning the entire visible range of colors. Iron oxide also tends to complex with water, which exacerbates the oxidation process. Sure the binders in Toyota white will oxidize over time, but to nowhere near the rate that unstable metals oxidize. On forums I have seen people speculate Toyota omits clear coat on white due to cost reasons or since they may be used as fleet vehicles that just get repainted. I think it is because clear coat on white actually decreases its longevity and most certainly its maintainability.

Lastly, white is the color that is the most reflective and rejects heat the best when the sun is out. This also makes it the brightest color for best contrast for visibility when dark or in rain. My biggest reservation with white is it disappears into whiteout conditions when snowing or when viewed against snow conditions.

I read some time ago that more than 20% of vehicles in the US were white color.

I have had 4 Toyotas, all white and never had a problem with the paint.

Quite a few things at this point..
lol I'm sorry but there is absolutely for a fact no "best color" it is 100% subjective to a person. Now if you would clarify some more details in what you're looking for in a paint like, the best paint for hiding scratches, or dust, or dirt, sand, or what color paint is best to not get pulled over in, ect. Things that actually have non subjective traits to them that can be tested and/or measured.

TLDR - Cav blue is the best color and everyone else is wrong.

    All the things!
More importantly... what's the worst color. All factors being considered?

I personally think the new OD Green is the worst 3rd gen color.

For what's currently available, I personally don't think there's a bad color, I like them all on the taco. But if I were to choose the color I'd pick last, voodoo blue. It's just so damn blue that it almost seems fake, especially in pictures the color almost seems edited hah, but I do still like it.

gross is that bronzit beige metallic :)

kidding aside, my first e30 was the same, bronzit, cloth tan seats.

ive had a ton of them in the past, currently just have a 1991 mtechnic convertible (silver) Its a real mtech car too, not a replica. My fav was my 1988 325ix, salmon silver, red sport seats, awd.

    Stock and staying that way
Silver scratches super easy. Typically white is the hardest paint.
