6MT 2.0T accord would be a lot more fun to drive, enough that I think I could live with the looks

Those black vents trailing off the tail lights--the fake ones--the ones they couldn't bother even making work with the bumper seam....yeah those. Hideous. And exemplifies everything wrong with Toyota styling.

The LE doesn't have them--but then it's cursed with that black gaping maw.

The Accord styling is polarizing but I don't see anything as offensively dumb as those fake black vents.

Can't speak for the Accord, but the Civic has fake black vents, too. At least it's not a skewp...

Call it heresy but I think the Ranger drives better, is faster, and carries a higher payload than the current Tacoma. I've have my taco for 2 years, love it, and won't be parting with it anytime soon. However, I think the engine, transmission, and overall design on the American market Ranger is just more modern. It doesn't make the tacoma a worse truck. Let's see how sales are in a few years.

Does "more modern" mean more electronic crap? Because Ford will always have that over the more conservative Toyota. Just like Ford will always offer huge discounts because they need to.

I'm referring to the engine and transmission. Have you driven one?

Yes, both the Ranger and the F150. They have good power for sure and I like the 10-speed (as far as AT's go).

Agreed, the 10 speed is really nice. I'd love to see an updated Tacoma with a more competitive transmission and maybe a bit more power.

Why would you release them into the wild?

Although very unlikely, it's at least possible that some engineers might get together and breed, and pretty soon we'd be overrun with wild-type engineers. That's a scary thought.

Is this the 10 speed with the class action lawsuit hanging over it?

The only thing wrong with the Taco transmission is the programming.

The retired Ford Engineer is going after the author of that motor biscuit article. I guess this is another reason why many current or former automotive engineers aren't active on forums. To be subjected to lazy journalism when someone is trying to help is terrible.

The journalist used the guy's name in a public article assuming he was a currently employed engineer. He ran his name in the mud without the facts. I'd be livid too if my name was attached in an inaccurate article.

Judging by the sheer number of people surprised to find out it has a double OD tranny, I suspect there is 2 things wrong with the transmission, and only one of them can be fixed by your local Toyota dealer.

    You meant this lawsuit?

As someone that owned not 1 but 2 F150's that had the 10 speed transmission all I can say it be best they do not call upon me to testify as I experience no said issues...

You know, this is the second time others have complained about transmissions problems (Tacoma and F150) and twice I have not had any issues, either I am extremely lucky and will buy lotto tickets tomorrow or people are overly sensitive to how an automatic transmission programmed to squeeze every last drop of MPG out of the tank.. feels when working correctly.
