JustDSM and I have been wondering the same thing. If it's a broadcast signal issue then the issue may be as simple as taking the signal and changing it apparently. The issue with that, however, is that none of us are fully educated with CAN network to the point to make mods to that extent and fix it properly at the monent. JustDSM may be investigating it because this will be an issue which will affect his 2015 as well and any other 2012-2015 owner switching out their PCM for a 2008-2011 PCM at this moment.

There is hardware out there that will convert. A mate put a 6L80 in his 105 series landcruiser. The bcm used Can for the reverse light. He used a Link or Aim ( suspicion one is made by the other) Can module to convert Can to what i assume a voltage output and switched the relay

Interesting. I am not quite educated on the subject matter, so I don't even know how I would even begin to search for something like that.

Finances got tight and at $35 a piece for the tubing connectors I had to skip it for now and just finished the cage to get the truck running before winter. They’re an easy add on when funding gets better or if stuff needs to get chopped out

I can send you something possibly later tonight or tomorrow morning. I've been taking things one at a time lately since I've been non-stop under the weather.

Need to convert analog to CAN in this case. If we were going from 2012+ ECU to 2009-2011 dash we could use something like that.

We're going to need to add the coolant temp to the BUS to get the gauge to work. I'm "on it" but I'm going to have to do some work to sniff out where the Coolant Temp is on the BUS. Need to get some new toys to sniff around and map things out.

What a weird issue huh. Out of all things EVERYTHING works EXCEPT that. I'm still trying to wrap my head around why they would change the communication method for that but leave everything else the same.

Toyota, oh what a feeling.

With the 2009 ECU can you read the temp with an obd2 scanner? If so the temp is on the can bus, but its not being picked up by the gauge. Maybe a device ID thing going on?

Yes the temp can be read with a scanner. If I remember right, he was thinking it was a potential broadcast signal discrepancy.
