And when the other 2,178 people that were not stoned before the legalization, will be, we can share in the cost associated with them now being stoned.

But on a very serious note, I think we take it very lightly and I am sure for good reason 90% of the time. The true tradgedy is those that have an addition to the stuff. If you are anything like me, you would say, "yeah, right!" ... ask Dr. Drew. :)

I do know friends sons that are truly addicted and they think it's kind of funny. I don't. They live in homes where their moms and dads will end up paying for their rent until they die. I knew many very motivated guys that smoked on a regular basis. It's only after they loose some relationships and jobs that it begins to suck.

And I know alcohol is much worse on what it can do to your body; Although I don't drink much now, if it was an Olympic sport in my earlier years, I would have placed in the metals.

I just would love to see people really address some of the people that have slipped in their lives through this. ... and regarding Salvia, the difference with drugs (or food supplements as I am sure they are called right now). From what I have read and watched - that shit would blow you on your ass so that you would not want to do it as many people that smoke everyday or drink everyday - a slow boil so you don't even know you're getting burned.

and please those that are on the border of this deal, look to those you admire most and would they also be the ones that smoke every day? I don't care if it is a casual thing - more concerned with those in the 'pot' that is slowly reaching a simmer.

    :end rant:

And I guess, enjoy the high cause I know there's stuff out there that would make the stuff that I smoked in college seem like a Salvia trip!

California is still a shit hole (except Yosemite), but this is the first act of governance out there that's made sense in a long time.

at the end of the day you gotta let people make their own choices. If you dont want your kids to become a stoner, educate them. I come from a country where you can be executed for smoking marijuana and people still do it. Things like this extend beyond the grasp of the law, it's all about personal choice, and until our government recognizes that, they will continue wasting money on trying to control it.

good points - I truly think that 'at the end of the day' the thing that have made the law enforcement take on this is to qualify for FEDERAL FUNDS!!!! and not addressing issues. The biggest issue IMO is child neglect. Sure guys the age of most of the folks on this site sure. Let them get high all they want if that what people desire. People with children, who smoke pot on a regular basis, is a bit whacky - but that's me.

Let's face it, in the grand scheme of things there are scads of people who have kids but shouldn't, for scads of different reasons.

And to that point, if we lived in a perfect world most people wouldn't have kids but that goes back to the 'perfect' world Blackhawk comes from! :(

I guess as long as the sun still shines everyday and I can live in my delusional, optimistic mind, that's all I should concern myself with. :) Maybe I should take up smoking on a daily basis!!! :) Maybe even put a tap on my 'frig!!! :D

    Okay, maybe not.

People die or cause undo hardships from all kinds of reasons and addictions. Cheeseburgers and fries, gambling, alcoholism, sex addiction, prescription drug use/abuse, tobacco, anorexia/bulemia. If or when it appears to me that the majority of citizens are for legalizing pot then I guess so be it and if not it is an intrusion by our government. With political climate today if the majority is against the legalization I'm sure we will begin to hear about it.

Looks like we may be finding out here in the coming years.

"The fundamental principle of the government is that the will of
the majority is to prevail." --Thomas Jefferson to William Eustis,
    1809.

the way I see it is if it's legal...more money in the hands of legitimate people than in the hands of criminals

downsides are minimal...if you're going to waste your life away on pot...you're going to waste it regardless if it's legal or not...or you'll waste it away on alchohol or video games

How so (I'm assuming you're pro legalization)? This doesn't reduce the fine at all. All it does is remove the option for a jury trial. It would probably result in more convictions at a lower cost to the state, not less.

There are lots of beautiful places in California besides Yosemite. You just have to get out of the cities (King's Canyon/Sequoia National Forest, Big Sur, Lake Tahoe, Lassen, pretty much all of northern California to name a few).

Instead of dumping all that money into anti-drug rhetoric they need to put it back in the education system AND in helping parents educate their own children. Yes, somewhere between the last 50yrs people have completely thrown the responsibility of educating their own children on the "system" and everyone else from the tv, the internet, to MTV. When my younger brother was growing up I told him what he needs to stay away from. I also told him that drugs make people feel good, thats why they are dangerous. That you smoke a 'j' you're not instantly a crackhead like they portray on tv buuuuut its a gradual process and before you know it one day you're 30yrs old living in the basement playing video games.

I'm not pro-legalization, I'm anti-tax-dollar waste. I'm ambivalent about legalization. People will smoke what they want whether it's legal or not. They already do. What's stupid is spending billions of non-pothead taxpayer dollars per year to keep high, hungry wastrels in jail.

The problem with California isn't the cities or the scenery, it's that it's full of Califorons.

I think 3/4 is a little optamistic, but I do think a huge reduction would be seen. Before this happens, I want to buy stock in Cheetos......
