    What’s going on everybody!

I have a 2001 tacoma that has headlights needing replacement. I’ve been shopping around for different options and also retrofit options. Really like the projector retrofit option but they’re a bit pricey.

I found a set of 2016-2018 tacoma headlights that have oem projectors on them for $100 and it came to mind on what if I could just disassemble the headlights and use the projector to retrofit onto a set of new headlight assemblies for the 1st gen.

I believe it’s possible, I just want to see if anyone has their thoughts on the idea and if in theory it would work. Thanks.

If you are going to go through the trouble of opening the headlights to add a projector I would just get HID projectors. They will be easier to install. Like 5 minutes vs however long it takes to install the 3rd gen projector which mounts to a bracket inside the headlight that you will have to cut to fit and somehow also mount. HID might cost more but it will be 100x better and easier.

That's a lot of work for very little gain, if any.

Besides, they are still just halogen projectors, which won't be of any use if you ever want to run HIDs.

HIDs are cool I guess, but again, they're pricey for not a lot of useful performance gain. Yes, they're brighter, but I've honestly never felt like the stock lights don't provide enough light. The cost v. benefit just isn't there for me.

IMO best bang for your buck is some CAPA certified TYC headlights from RockAuto (~$40 a piece), and some decent halogen bulbs. If you want lights with super duper ultra bright light projection, get some LED light pods or a a lighbar for the roof (for off roading that is).

I don’t plan on ever running HIDs. I have LED bulbs right now and I get a nice crisp white light. Eventually I want to retro fit a projector and top notch brands like morimoto have universal kits starting at like $270.
I just thought of I could buy the 16-18 headlight and use the projector off of them for cheaper. Of course retrofitting comes with some customization and I’m aware of that. I just want an some experience advise on retrofitting if anyone has any and let me know that this is possible of doing.

You can wait for a group buy for around 220.00 for the mini h1 with the wiring harness.
I paid 220.00 with wiring harness and updated bulb holders and upgraded shroud cover, 5500 light color with shipping for Black Friday

Worth every bit of the money.
You will never know how crappy your lights are till you get a set of these

Unless you want Morimoto's M-LED projectors. Those will mount like a HID projector easy peasy. They aren't as wide projecting or as evenly bright as HID but have a similar sharp cutoff.

Seems like the "before" pics have a far more desirable pattern. The new setup projects light upward and could blind other drivers.

    You misunderstood my info.
There are NO before photos here,
These are photos with the projector now.

This is low beam with the projectors that shot a straight line cutoff about 30” high, side mirror level.
With the cutoff they do not hit the oncoming persons eyes. The cutoff on the on coming drivers side is lower and the passenger side is a bit higher.

The high beams are definitely very bright with NO cutoff.

Below are high beam lights now from the projector

Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't trying to disrespect your setup, I just didn't realize they were all "after" pics.
