305/70/16 with 3" of lift?

EDIT: after looking a little more into 305's, i have changed my mind against them because of all of the other problems i would deal with in trying to make them fit. Sorry, to change things up on anyone and i don't know how to change the thread title, but the subject is now 295/75/16's or 285/75/16's.

my money is finally building up and it's getting closer to time for new tires and wheels. i already have pro comp 7089's 16x8 picked out. my question is, will a 295/75/16 fit with 3" of lift? i am aware that trimming will be necessary, but can i make it work? i have 3" in the front and 2" in the rear. i have seen only a couple of people on here with this size, i guess because it's an odd size. so i know it's possible, but how was it done? what had to be done/trimmed/added? and what was the difference after moving to 295's (mpg, power, shudders/vibes, etc)? or would a 285/75/16 be a better option? i know that the 285's will be less effort to make work because they are more narrow, but the 295 is just a little more narrow than a true 33x12.5. anybody have any input?

one last question, would new ucas be required on this? it seems like it would rub, but with the right offset, would it be ok?

 

I'm putting 305/70/16's on in a couple of months on my 3" lift. My wheels are 16x8 with 4" backspacing. I can answer all your questions in a couple months LOL. Right now I'm finishing off my 265's. I fully expect to rub my body mount, that much I know.

 

i would stick with the 285s because you have more choices of tires and less trimming

 

alright, that's good because i still have a decent amount of life on my 265's too. i'll try to keep in touch and see how it worked out.

yeah, 305's have a small selection. but i was wanting to go back with duratracs again. and goodyear just came out with a 305 duratrac and it's only about $20 more per tire for 305's. as far as trimming, i don't mind. i am willing to sacrifice some un-necessary plastic in my fender for a bigger tire.

I run 295's. I like the look alot. But be ready to chop your cab mounts and a little fender trimming. For street there fine but I wanted the clearance to stuff them offroad. So far I'm more than pleased.

 

yeah, i think it's a great look. it gives our trucks almost like a bulldog stance, if that makes sense. and yes, one reason i strayed away from the 305's was because of that cab mount chop. i didnt realize the 295's would be the same . as far as that goes, is it really necessary for the daily driver? or just somebody that wheels a lot and needs every fraction of an inch that's available in the wheel wells? i know the fender trimming isn't something i can avoid, but if i don't trim the cab mounts, will there be negative effects? by the way man, great truck. it's pretty sick.

I mostly want to stuff 305's on because I have what my Doctors call " A small penis". His prescription was 33x12.5's.

I dunno I might chicken out and just do 285's.

 

haha, a man of honesty. but the 305's would look good. i just don't know if i'd wanna put them on a 2.7... you might have to re-gear, idk. i'm not too sure. not downing a 2.7, just saying. and yes. 295's are the optimal choice right now. but 285's might end up being less trouble and more practical

haha, i wish. although, some of these actual tire sizes for 295's are around and over 34", or at least that's what tirerack and tirepackage.com posted...closer to a 315 than i thought. probably gonna be gutting my fender wells for 295's. 315's, that would look sick but be a lot of work. i bet having that front bumper helped out a lot. it frees up some of that space

 

Yea, I'm not even sure you could do it with a stock front bumper. Most likely not without hacking it to pieces. I would probably just go with a 285/75/16.

 

I'd just go with 285/75s, much easier and less headaches... Still looks super firey too

 

yeah, that looks good. and that's secretsquirrel's truck, right? but i've lowered the bar down to 295's or 285's just to make things more simple.

any input about the uca's anybody? are they necessary? i don't get off the pavement too much or need much off road capability. i just want it to look good and need everything to function like it should.

Not going to put them on right away. I was surprised they didn't look as big as I thought (that's what she said). The tread width is a full 2" wider than the 265 Kumhos on it now. Uninflated (off the rim) the sidewall is 12" on the nose. I guess it will puff out more when they get mounted and aired up. Glad I didn't go with 285's, they would have looked just like the 265's.

Let the body mount rub begin!

Actually I changed my mind. I'm going to be hacking up some plastic Sunday and having them mounted up Monday. They are taking up too much room in my apartment and though I love the smell of new tires, just not so much in my apt.

I will put up pics in a couple of weeks. I'm ordering ICON resi's in the back and some coilovers, just trying to decide what coilovers. I don't think I can use a remote resi coilover because the 305 tires may rub it at full lock. I know they will miss everything (once trimmed) but the body mount. Plus they cost an ass load and are overkill for my needs but look bad as. At least I can justify spending the money on the ICON shocks, even though they are overkill too. Some things ya just gotta get.

Well ICON's all the way around, it is. With any luck I will have them by Friday. I decided to get the non resi's. At least the rear will have resi's lol.
