Deep cells, non-dual purpose deep cell batteries don’t handle the sharp demand of starters well. They are hard to kill from slower drains but four years ain’t bad.

Northstar, X2 and Odyssey make dual purpose group 31 deep cells. Optima has no such product on the market in any group size.

$13 Denso IKH24 Denso 5346 Spark Plug

Denso IKH24? Is the NGK 4901 that is mentioned in the pg1 the same heat range or is it the same as the

$9 IKH22 Iridium Power Spark Plug, (Pack of 1)

The intercooler pump has been annoying to me as well. Randomly turns on with the ignition off. I did replace that junky tap with a proper fuse tap, though.

Also getting tired of intercooler system fluid loss over time. Would be nice to see a group buy on a better reservoir tank.

 

I will switch the power source as well, in due time. However, I don’t get any fluid loss. Unless you have a different mix, distilled water, then I would check the seal inside the manifold. You may be leaking there, mine is sealed with RTV inside. Fairly easy to get to and check as well.

 

just installed the booster. easy upgrade especially if you run an AGM battery.

 

its supposed to do that. sitting fluid heats up. random cycles help circulate and cool things down better.

 

Cold temperatures don't really cause batteries to fail. It does cause the chemical reaction that makes batteries work to slow down significantly which makes a failing battery appear dead. The reason batteries die so quickly in areas like where I live, Alberta, is because we do see 90f-105f ambiant temperatures for 3 months of the year. That causes the internal damage to the battery that goes unnoticed until one year when, usually during the first hard cold -20f snap, the battery fails to start the truck under the conditions where it performs the worst (cold weather). At least that's how it's always been explained to me lol.

My Toyota OEM battery died after three years. I took it in for warranty, got a pro rated rate, and passed it along the new battery to a friend. I bought a JCI manufactured Energizer AGM battery next. Installed the AGM friendly voltage booster as well. Three years later and it died as well. Costco sold it to me though and their warranty is awesome, over the counter 100%. I installed the new one in my garage as a starter battery for my snowblower. I'm using a Northstar battery in the Tacoma now (27M) and it's the first battery I can say after one summer doesn't seem to struggle to start my boosted Taco in cold weather. I will say no one should be scared to run an AGM deep cycle marine battery in a Tacoma. At that size they're designed to start small marine diesels, which are harder to start than a boosted 1GR, and will last longer when used under hotel load like a fridge overnight on a multiday trip. The only thing that sucks with the 27M is the terminals are too far away for easily swapping the battery. I had to lengthen the ground to body wire which was no big deal.

 

I was telling a co-worker today about what I've done to my truck - he said "man, you should have just bought a Raptor or something". I've heard that before. As I'm sure a lot of us have. People just... don't... understand.

 

Just heard the raptor thing 2 days ago. Power wagon is another one I hear about a lot.

 

Power wagons are brutal though. In general the Ram 2500 in any variant is just a plain old mess and will cost way more than a Tacoma. Especially when Ram denies your warranty because they're broke but will blame you for farting the wrong way too close to the dash.

 

So, I've been lurking, reading this and a few other Supercharger related threads trying to decide if I should pull the trigger on purchasing. The consensus seams to be avoid the Bullydog unit and opt for the HP Tuners tune with 4 universal credits. I know zero about tuning. For those of you who went the HP Tuners route, did you do your own tune, or take it to a shop? My truck is getting HEAVY and I would love an extra bit of power to roam the mountains. That said, I don't want to burn $5k+ and not be satisfied with the performance.

 

Tell me about it. I get that every time I run my race truck and pass up sports cars in an suv. Many hurt feels. This was before I bought my skyline gtr and I didn't want my first race car purchase to not be a skyline. Altough it would've been funny if you did buy a raptor and lowered it.
