    Historically I've spent a bit of time in the woods camping and wheeling in my Jeep, circa 2005-2017ish. I had so little room in the jeep I never considered anything beyond a small cooler with some ice.

    Now that I'm in a vehicle with some room to spare (17 DCSB Sport), I have been considering building into an overlanding/expedition style rig for weekend camping and the twice yearly road trips my wife and I are planning. We watch countless hours of youtube series and read seemingly endless forums about overlanding and camping gear. We are hoping to start with good gear that doesn't break the bank and slowly upgrade to the more expensive, robust equipment.

    I know, I know, for a weekend camping trip, just use a cooler and ice. Problem we have with that is the water getting stuff wet on day 2 and 3 of our outing. Queue the fridge...

    We have looked at a few Dometic 12V fridges and the price, $800+, is a bit steep for our casual use. Has anyone tried this XtremepowerUS brand fridge?

    There are cheaper options than the dometic.
    Look in the group buy section. There is a similar model for around 500.

    For $319 it may be worth a shot. I'm in a similar situation, I've been checking CraigsList and Facebook marketplace. Occasionally a deal will come up on TacomaWorld but this looks like its worth checking out. I don't see it listed anywhere on the Walmart site, but I'll bet the "XtremepowerUS" is not made in the US...pet peeve of mine. If you're going to use "US" or "USA" as part of your name,I'd prefer the product be manufactured in the US.
    Edit: Also, the insulated covers apparently really increase the performance of these things, so you may want to make sure either the manufacturer offers one or the other brand covers will fit.

    Having a fridge instead of a cooler/ice makes camping so much easier imo.
    I've had this one for about a year now. It's been running almost constantly either in the back of my truck, in my camping trailer or in the garage with no issues whatsoever.

    That said, when you are out camping, you need to think about how you are going to power the fridge. The cost of powering a portable refrigerator for extended periods may easily equal or exceed the cost of the fridge itself.... Food for thought...

    Get a Truckfridge through the group buy. Has a high quality compressor and hundreds of buyers on this forum alone.

    Might be another $100, but free shipping and cover IIRC. They also won’t have a sealed system failure in 2 years.

    I have a dometic, and it’s worth every penny. I don’t treat it super nicely and it hasn’t skipped a beat. Got rained on in an open bed, mud flung on it, etc. Not to mention the company itself is stand up and are at every off-road event I go to, usually sponsoring them. They really care about the off-roading/camping community. I only use mine for (at most) 2 nights at a time so pretty casual.

    Edit: this isn’t to say less expensive options are inferior, but the internals may be less rugged, may be less efficient and draw more power, etc. Just chiming in to state that Dometic isn’t necessarily over priced (not that anyone said that), just priced appropriately for what you’re getting.

    During Black Friday on Amazon I went with a mid-grade product called ICECO (model JP40) that touts the same Danfoss compressor that Dometic uses. I got it for a Black Friday steal 40% off at $317 (normally $529). It also came with an insulated zipped cover that is usually an extra option for Dometic. I am happy with my purchase and quality:

    How has the iceco been working for you? I've been eyeing it up but I'm not sure if I should just save the money for a dometic.

    ^^^ I could not justify a Dometic just based on my usage - not full time. So I went with something cheaper. So far so good with the ICECO. I like it, but I also got it for <$350.

    I actually just ordered it today, I got it for just under 400 with a cover on Amazon. The most I do is about a week at a time but its usually just a weekend. I'm sure it will be way better than a cooler.

    How are you powering your fridge? Just bought the CFF45 and I plan to install a northstar 27.. See how that works for now and probably upgrade to solar eventually.
