May not have my Taco much longer....

So due to some hard times I'm giving away the tacoma. Its new owner will be my mom who doesn't have a reliable car. My truck, aka "little blue", only has 64,900 on the clock. I just finished a host of upgrades including side steps, custom grill, new speakers/tires/spark plugs, weather tech floor mats, and other stuff. Its been a reliable truck, fun and easy to drive, has plenty of balls for a daily driver, and gets great mileage. Its been on two 2000+ mile road trips to Oregon and Washington loaded to the hilt and riding the bump stops.

I think I'm going to take it on a cruise on PCH before I let it go, just to say my goodbyes and tip the clock over 65,000. Any other good rituals to do before the truck goes? Maybe a last trip in-n-out burger...

I hope I can still hang out on these forums. Its a great place and everyone is really cool here. Thanks for everyone's help!

On a more fun note, if you guys have any suggestions for a replacement car I'm all ears. For some crazy reason I like having more than one vehicle (anything with an engine), so I'm thinking about buying a project car like an old el camino, or heck maybe a chopper . Can't be anything too expensive though...I dumped a lot of money into this truck!

Sorry you'll be giving it up. I don't mean to pry, so please disregard thus if you like. But, who's hard times, yours or your mother's? Just confused be cause you're already looking to replace it.

 

I suppose what I'm getting at is why don't you just buy her a simple commuter? I mean, why give up something you invested a lot of work/money into, if you can afford to buy something else that will more likely better suit her needs (i.e. mpgs)?

This....I just gave my Mother in Law my wifes 2000 Grand AM that we had since new worth about 3k, but I would cut my arm off before I gave my Taco away.

I'm confused. Your mom having a tough time or are you?

If its you, why would you want to dump your Taco, get another car, then say you like having more than one vehicle?

If its your mom, just get her a decent car and keep the truck for yourself.

My mom was milking the life out of her '89 chrysler minivan till the siblings and I got her a new prius last month.

 

Don't sweat it. We all have hard times, whether financially or other, but they tend to work out over time. In the end, a vehicle is really just an appliance, though on an enthusiasts forum that's hard to tell.

Money pits. Not a good idea if he's having hard times.

 

I don't have the cash to blow on an el camino or a WRX at the moment...it was just an idea to help me let go of the truck lol I am a pretty good saver though so if I want to get something I can usually set a goal and save up.

For those who are confused, my mom needs a car asap and she needs something high-clearance to get to her house in the middle of the sticks in southern AZ. The reason why she had car problems in the first place is because she always used a crappy little Hyundai with no ground clearance like a boat crossing sandy streams. Hopefully the taco will fair better, although there's not much weight on that rear axle so the tires tend to spin in anything loose.

Good call on the honda/minivan suggestions. I'm trying to convince her to move back to the city, then perhaps I can buy a honda or something cheap for her and get the taco back.

Of course these are all in the Tucson area, but you said Southern Arizona. Point is, if you haven't already looked around first, you'll likely regret it later.

Then again, you may have already thought all this out...

If you can afford one, totally go with a WRX or STI, I was between a tacoma and an STI

I also used to have a 93' 4runner and loved it to death! Could romp through whatever but still handled well on any daily driving needs
