It’s a wealth of knowledge here. Did you figure out true ride height and if you’re sitting where you want to be?

Where exactly are you measuring preload? Just top of shock body to the top of the preload ring? I am also swapping to a 14" 650LB spring on the 2.5 ext dsc. I am access cab with steel bumper, sliders and skids and will be adding winch soon. I'm currently on bilstein 6112s at 21.5" DR from center hub to bottom fender and 22" Passenger. Since your a 3rd gen, would this preload put me at 3"? Just trying to figure out a starting point. My end goal is to be at 22.5" hub to bottom fender on both sides. I have the SPC UCA right at 4 degrees of caster. Any suggestions of similar setups would be much appreciated.

One last question, does P/N 880-06-418 no longer come with a locking ring on top of the preload rings? I recieved mine with only preload rings and all of the pics I've seen have both rings.

I’m measuring exposed threads above the preload collar. And yes that’s basically 3” lift over stock second gen. It’s settled slightly over the past month to 22.5”.

Honestly, I have no clue what to tell you. My buddies dclb 3rd gen with same shocks and coils, but no extra weight of bumper and winch, and he had to crank down preload significantly further than me. So there’s variance between truck, coils and definitely between gens. Maaaaaybe as a guesstimate, start with no preload on passenger and 1/4” on driver. 22.5” hub to fender is perfect imo.

@AccuTune Offroad likes to measure bottom eyelet to top of tophat and says max should be 21”. This should be 23” hub to fender (for both 2nd and 3rd gen). But again, YMMV.

go for it. Good luck and no big deal to make fine tune adjustments while on truck. You can use these coil compressors to make life easier when you do: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B071DQJG24/ref=sspa_mw_detail_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    And a 5/16” punch.

I made 2, 5/16” punches out of cold rolled steel, a liberal dousing of PB Blaster, and even more elbow grease to adjust mine once they were installed. Worked up a sweat but got them where I need it to be. Just under 2” of thread showing on the driver side and 1/4” less on the passenger to account for the taco lean. Measures just under 21” eyelet to top hat on the driver side and the ride is awesome. 2.25” of lift on my 3rd gen for a hub to fender measurement of 23.25”

Just to be clear, the amount of threads showing on the coilover is NOT your preload. Like mentioned above, every truck is different and will require a X amount of preload to get you X lift height.

Does anyone have a link to a good video on how to replace the springs or any pointers if you've done it yourself? From what I can tell: secure the coilover, compress spring with spring compressor, back off preload ring if needed, remove lower coil seat and snap ring, release spring compressor and repeat in reverse for new spring. I am really having a hard time justifying spending $200 in labor when I could just buy the tools and do it myself. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

A few mods here and there and counting....
It is that easy with a proper spring compressor. I nearly shelled out $200, but a local member had a spring compressor and was willing to lend his time to help. 30 minutes and it was done.

The question is: what is a proper compressor for these coils? There are 2 listed in the product section below; are either of those suitable for this job?

Both in the product listings look better than the typical auto parts store rental or the sweet device pictured below. As long as you use common sense and apply a little patience I'm pretty sure it will be fine. Screenshot_20191228-114919_Google.jpg

    Check My Sig.
Pay someone with the proper equipment. It’s not worth the risk to use one of the cheapy compressors on these shocks. It’ll work on 5100s but not a 600+ lb spring with the amount of preload these have.

Where are you located? It is NOT a $200 job. That’s outrageous.

I had a guy swap out my springs for 75$ locally... see if you can talk them down. Cash talks and 200$ is crazy high IMO

100% agree. We charge $25/each and takes about 15 minutes. Find a shop to do it for you, DO NOT use a rental spring compressor

Hello I just installed some Fox 2.5 resi CO on my '15 DCSB with Allpro expedition leaves in the rear. Didn't have the correct height set on the foxs to match the 3" rear and want to raise the collar 1".

The lower shock eyelet to tophat is currently a little below 20" and hub to fender is about 22" so I have 1" to go up.

My question is how to actually raise it? I have the coilovers with the single collar with the allen screws holding the two halves together. My plan to adjust is:
    1. Jack up front of truck.
    2. Spray the threads with PB blaster/spray with compressed air to remove shit
    3. Loosen allens slightly
    4. Use a punch that'll fit in the adjustment holes to turn about an 1" worth of threads.

Will I loose my hands doing this or is there a better way?

That’s what I did and worked fine. It’s hard to move at first, but it’ll go. If you want an easier time, you can purchase one of the compressors below and it’ll turn much easier.

for the record. I bought the SPC compressors from Amazon for about $145 and split it three ways with some buddies. They are definitely safe to use and fit on the coils while still on the truck.

Damn it I went to Oreillys to get the rental compressors and both of them didn't work. Might just have the shop do it when I take it to get aligned

Those compressors are garbage. I tried the same thing and failed. Use 2 5/16” punches at a time and soak the threads with PB Blaster. The collars will turn.
