Also a strong rumor that the next Tundra is finally getting away from rear leaf springs. The most popular theory is that Toyota is working on a coil-spring or air-spring rear suspension.

    BRAVO!

In today's society when a self-proclaimed expert tells people incorrect information people will believe that expert. The evidence is everywhere - especially concerning man made climate change. All logic and common sense get thrown out the very second the self proclaimed expert throws them out.

It probably has to do with government requirements of so many vehicles making so many mpg per manufacturer bureaucratic bla bla bla... lol

This doesn’t mean what has been discussed is incorrect, and the move to a shared frame such as the TGNA-F would support this. Rumored hybrid engine for the tundra, etc. supports the move to electric and away from conventional combustion along with a shared platform. The whole point being don’t expect a 2022 new Tacoma, it’s just not feasible / realistic given other platforms currently being updated and what it takes to tool / implement, so we can enjoy the current gen for a bit now. And as you and the other poster mentioned the likelyhood of Toyota knowing a move towards greener is coming and waiting their time taking a more cautious approach.

Tacoma sells more so on name than anything else, it’ll continue to win sales despite whatever new mangled tech the others throw into their trucks. Just look at 2015 sales when the new heavily more modern GM twins showed up.

Good opportunity for Nissan to pick up some much needed truck sales.

I get it that diesels get better mpg but at what cost? Toyota is known for being reliable but aren't diesels more expensive and more costly repairs over time? Injectors etc.

In the end I’m more than okay with this above everything else I love my high resale and this will help keep it that way.

I do see a lot of the new 3rd gen owners abandoning ship, most of us older owners have had Tacomas for a decade + and are used to having outdated tech/interiors/etc. I had no issue buying and driving my 2015 in 2015, some would consider that truck a dinosaur at the time. I’m guessing a lot of this new owner 3rd gen crowd will not feel the same way and be onto something else if we keep this gen till 2024.

The 4Runner is the only body on frame SUV, everyone else is unibody. I like body on frame SUVs.

And assembled in Japan! I remember when my ex bought her 2015 4Runner it was so much more solid in fit and finish or so it seemed than my Taco.
