I used to worry about him running around a bunch too, but that's just how he plays.

On the local sports radio up here they have huge debates about how he hangs onto the ball and whether it helps or hurts. Lots of good points on both sides.

Thats why we like Russell though, he's versatile. If we have a solid offensive line then great, he can stay put and throw down field. Like 2-3 years ago when he and Doug Baldwin were on fire.

If we have a crappy O line (like right now) then he can extend plays and keep us in a game

Whats to debate? They've been good nearly the entire time he's been on the team.

One point of debate is the amount of sacks he takes. Is that because the other team's pass rush is good? Poor offensive line? Or does that sack number just reflect the fact that he simply hangs onto the ball longer than most.

You could also argue that if there was more guys open down field he wouldnt have to run around in circles after every snap

Im not trying to take a side, its just interesting how his style of play is changing the game.

He's really good and causes problems defensively and he's been doing this his entire career which is why seattle is usually in the hunt. It just seems like the other shoe is going to come down hard at some point. He does have an amazing awareness.

Russell Wilson is in his 8th year in the league. He’s already had a career longer than most QBs so I think your theory is kinda broken. He hasn’t really been injured. Most “pocket” QBs that make it to their 8th year typically have more injuries than Russell Wilson. I’d argue it’s easier to protect yourself when you’re running than when you’re standing in the pocket.

You're probably right, I just keep yelling "get the fucker" every time we play them and he keeps slipping away. I don't want him injured but a good lick is in play every time he does it. I can't recall a more elusive QB going back to Fran Tarkington. I checked and this year wasn't even average in terms of carries so maybe he just hates us as much as we love to hate him.

He’s good no doubt. But have you watch Lamar Jackson this year? It’s a highlight reel every game. Breaking everyone’s ankles.

When he's done it for 8 more years we'll discuss it some more, another guy named Cunningham was pretty good too. What sets Wilson apart is the combination of freakish ability to generate misses and the equally freakish luck to have gotten away with doing it so much for so long. Jackson is a runner that throws, Wilson runs in order to throw and I'd bet that he learned early on that being smaller he needed to be elusive which augments his offensive ability much more than the yardage he could gain. Whether running or scrambling he always avoids getting hit and I don't think that's an accident. I respect his ability but every time we play him I want to see him flattened just once.

I won’t deny Wilson’s skill. And yes, I think we need to see if Jackson can have longevity in this league. But I don’t think you watched him much this year. He lead the league in TD passes and only played 15 games (and sat out the 4th quarter in like 5 games). The dude can sling the ball.
