My cousin has one. Definitely we’ll built. It’s cool.
But I really like the pit boss’ direct searing

YMMV, but my Green Mountain does not have the sliding plate and will sear just fine. The trick is letting the grill get up to max temp and let it heat soak for a few minutes.

Awesome! The Pit Boss website when you expand More says- The 340/440 is to be used with all 400 models and the 340 Tailgator only.

So ordered it on Amazon, free shipping and free returns for same price from Pit Boss.

Well crap. And so I cancelled my Amazon order....

    And problem solved :D

Yeah I was on the Virtual Bullet website this morning reading the Smokefire thread. For me it boils down to those 2 also. Not sure how I will end up. And do not have a 26" kettle yet and really don't need 3 22" kettles. Going to wait and see how the Lockhart and Smokefire reviews stack up. I do really like this little Lowes Pit Boss and for the most part it is just me eating. But that Lockhart looks like a jerky and fish smoking beast. Among other things.

    Thermoworks. And don't look back.

I got tired of the cheap junk and wish I would have bought quality a lot sooner in my life instead of trying saving money. By the time it was all said and done could have just purchased something decent to start with.

If all you want to do is monitor temps the Smoke 2 channel is on sale for $79.20 right now

But if you think down the road you want to add an Automatic Temperature Controller to your smoker go with the 4 channel Signals. You can add the Billows to it so that you have an ATC.

I have several instant read ThermoPop thermometers figured didn't need to spend the money on a Thermapen. But finally got one on sale, like they are right now, and it is all I use.

Even ended up with the Industrial IR gun recently for $33. It is still on sale, should have got one sooner.

Everything I linked to is on sale right now. Do not buy from Amazon you need to get it directly from Thermoworks website. The Amazon stuff is cheap Chinese knock offs. Like a lot of stuff on Amazon anymore.

I’m really waiting on some reviews of the Weber. Hoping this summer to be able to get a new pit but time will tell.

My single channel Maverick is ~12 years old and still kicking. Most of the time, it drops connections randomly. But for the most part still works. I use it to monitor temperatures inside the dog crate in the back of the truck under the topper during those 6 weeks of piss poor sledding we get here.

Maybe the pit boss rep is wrong
I checked the website again and it did state
"The 340/440 is to be used with all 400 models and the 340 Tailgator only"

so worst case, keep the Amazon order, try it and if it doesnt work, do the free return?

Sounds like I need to be talking to you about my next cutting board. I'll keep that in mind when I get the funds together for one after all the holiday spending stops.

I keep using my thermopro coz I dont want to read the manual

yup this is the one still in its box
It was a good deal though. I think it was 50% off
