2WD to 4WD FAILURE

I just drop my truck of at Longo Toyota for service. The truck is 14 months old with 5200 miles on it.

A couple of days ago I was in Death Valley and switch from 2WD to 4WD to cross a stream about 3ft deep. On the other side of the stream I put it back into 2WD and after about 200ft I get this Message.

I have a set of Kings on my truck and it’s lifted about 2.5 INCHES.

They say since my truck is highly modified there’s a question of whether or not they will cover this under warranty. I’m pretty sure this is an electronic problem and nothing to do with my shocks or lift. There are quite a few trucks that are modified that never have this problem.

Ive read a few post of people having the same problem on the net.
What do you guys think ?

 

Atleast now you know never to go to that dealership again.

 

Unless you modified the actuator in the transfer case, there’s no reason for them to not cover it

 

Until they come up with bullshit reasons not to cover it. It's gonna be, a lead to b lead to c, blah blah bad accuator, not covered. Id just go to another dealership that isint a bunch of assholes.

I wouldn't call a lift "highly modified" , especially not a 2.5" .

 

what does a lift have to do with the tcase failing lol. Dealerships these days...

 

If you have a 2.5ft lift I can understand why they would call it highly modified.

 

Leave that dealer a shitty illiterate google review with a bunch of made up bs just as they did to you.

I would be more worried about them finding water somewhere and claiming abuse rather than blaming aftermarket parts. How high up on the truck did the water go and have you done any breather mods?

 

I want to see photos of your truck lifted 2.5 feet.

 

Did you try switching it again. Do it multiple times. It just might start work properly again.

is there a limit stated somewhere?

 

it was 3ft at the most and I’ve done the breathing mod to the back diff. I could be wrong but I thought the front diff didn’t need a breather mod.

 

I’ve tried it many times over the last 3 days. Drove in reverse also to see if something was binding. No luck.

 

It also doesn't tell you not to drive off a cliff. While not being an airplane, it's also not a boat. Modern vehicles don't like water.
