That's the way I interpreted the letter I got last week. Since my truck received Ziebart undercoating the day after I bought it (and I'd NEVER get this product again) and I've had annual re-sprays every year, I have a different plan. I'm going to wait a bit since I'm thinking of trading my truck in for a 2020 or 2021. If I do decide to pull the trigger - or even if I don't - I'll get the Toyota treatment done. In either case, that'll be within 2 years. That's because once I get the Toyota coating applied, Ziebart won't touch or warranty the vehicle.

It looks like the American version of the letter says you have 2 years to have the truck inspected and the coating applied, which then preserves the warranty extension until 12 years from In Service Date. Funny that wasn't detailed in the Canadian letter.

Are they sending these letters out to second owners? I owned a 2016 new, but then traded that in for my 2014 (bought at a Mercedes dealership)

Are people in CO receiving this letter? Noticed it says that it's only being sent to people in affected states where corrosion is an issue. Seems that if they have shit frames, all states should be affected

The best way is just call your dealer and request to speak with the service mgr. Voice your concerns about the rust and you will know.

Got the letter today from Toyota Canada, they also tell me I have till 2021 to get it inspected. Had the truck rust protected by the dealer when it was new as part of the deal, so I don’t know how this is going to go play out.

I'm going to forgo this campaign. While I think it's admirable that Toyota wants to extend my frame warranty for 12 years, the requirement for the undercoating gives me pause. Too many stories of frames rotting out underneath this application.

So right or wrong, here's my logic: According to Toyota all that stands between me and a rusted frame is a quick, one time inspection on their part, followed a haphazard application of a mediocre product that doesn't even address the root cause of the problem.

So I figured that if Toyota thinks that a subpar countermeasure is all that's required to save my frame then surely an attentive owner, staying on top the issue and using a superior product...one that actually addresses the issue of moisture and salt getting inside the frame, then I should have better results.

Is it a bit of a gamble? I guess it is. But it's one I'm willing to take. I don't want to have to go through the ordeal of a new frame. And my prediction is that with Toyota's "fix" that's the road I would be heading down.

I'm using Liquid Wrench Harsh Environment rust inhibitor....especially in the known problem areas of the inside of the frame around the cats.

Corrosion of the frame has only been an issue in locations where lots of road salt is used.

I'm a second owner as well and received my letter a couple of months ago. I need to dig it out but I think it said I would be contacted for an appointment. IF it's a CRC type stuff they have switched to, I'll do it. I'll also keep spraying it myself at least once per year.
I also spray up into the weep holes in my doors, rockers and cab corners. When it's hot out, I use Fluid Film and follow up a few weeks later with WD-40 to thin it down a little. I can see the oil creeping up the outside of my doors for a few months which tells me it's getting into all the small crevices like it should. The down side is that I have to wipe off the bottoms of my doors from time to time. I'll take that.

I live in the Midwest and I do spray my truck with fluid film every fall. My undercarriage looks like new and it’s always oily and messy and don’t know how the crc stuff will adhere on it to began with.
Also, I don’t understand who is the clever at Toyota that recommended this. Undercoating the truck should work when the truck is new with absolutely no rust at all. If you have rust and you cover it with this material, you are going to make the matter worse.
If you guys inspect your frames closely. It’s painted with a very thin and crappy black paint. If Toyota sprays these frames with good quality thick layer of paint we wouldn’t be discussing this today. but who knows.

Keep in mind this isn't a rubberized undercoating. And the application isn't haphazard.

They take the front of the truck apart a little, use a frame washer to get all dirt and contaminants out, then use a special dryer for 8 hours to dry it completely.

The product they use this time around is like a heavier version of fluid film. They use a special tool to completely coat the inside of all the boxed sections with the CRC. Then your warranty gets extended, like you said, for 12 years.

I don't see much downside to doing it and I've made my appointment, but like you said it's a personal choice.

Quote: "Also FYI the new corrosion inhibitor isn't the black paint-like coating of the previous campaign. They are cleaning and drying the inside of the boxed sections with a special machine, then applying a Fluid Film like product inside the boxed sections. The C-channel frame sections are not coated with anything, this is still up to the owner to spray. Let's hope any holes they find in the C-channel areas are reason to get approved for a frame replacement, from what I've ready, they are focusing on the boxed sections near the cross braces at the front of the truck."

Sharpish, where did you get the information about the new CRC coating being like Fluid Film? I have my truck Krowned every year and it looks really good for almost 6 Pennsylvania winters ( salt/brine heavy state) and I was NOT planning on taking it in for the CRC coating if it was the black sticky crap they were using. I got my letter in the mail about the campaign about a month ago and was at the dealer today for service and asked about having it done and they said they didn't get the machine/equipment yet to have it done yet. If it is like Fluid Film I may have it done just to cover myself just in case and then continue to have the truck Krowned after that. When I schedule my appointment for the inspection I am going to ask what the CRC product actually is.
