I’m pretty sure your issue is electronic. If it’s the actuator, it should be a warranty repair as a lift would not impact that. Could a wire or connector somewhere have been pulled loose in the water crossing or in the trail? My 4Runner was an 06 and the actuator was still working albeit would take some time. It was lifted and had seen some water above the front differential over years. I’m guessing it’s just an electronic component or a loose wire. I have mixed feelings with all the electronic stuff on these trucks. It’s cool while it works, but for longevity and cost of ownership I’d rather have a manual transfer case. About the only “essential” electronic is the fuel injection IMHO. I haven't wheeled my Tacoma much, have done some low water but nothing over lower rocker.

 

This is exactly the way I think. It’s an electric issue and a lift will not have anything to do with it. I’m not a physicists so I’m not positive about the relationship in the relationship between space and time the lift and the actuator but I just have to see what the dealer says if they won’t fix it on the warranty I will just end up fixing myself I will not give them the money to fix it since this is just a common issue with lotta trucks that aren’t even lifted

The only way it could impact it IMO is if somehow the increased articulation of more suspension travel could have pulled a wire, or something like that. Toyota pretty much has to cover it if the mod can not be directly correlated with it. You might need to work with Toyota directly if the dealership is trying to avoid fixing it...

I had a similar problem with one of the actuators in my 4 runner. It’s important ant that the front diff (and rear diff) and transfer case that contain the actuators get properly lubed. If it happened after a stream costing, that appears to be the problem.

 

I would definitely expect a vehicle with only 5200 miles on it to still have the lubricants it needs. How often do they expect us to apply lubrication. Every 2500 miles?

No, but in a new vehicle before break in period and water contamination, I could see it seizing up. Or, it could be an electrical problem with one of the actuators.

 

All I can tell you is, regardless of the lubricant. These things don’t like cold use. They like to be engaged until they heat up and the low viscosity fluid heats up and lubes everything. New truck, it’s just an educated guess.....but it happened after a stream crossing....and there are electrical connections too in that area to actuator that could be shorted out.

 

I miss manual hubs and transfer manual shift...I miss them dearly. I never had a problem getting out.(Possibly in shitty weather) to lock the front hubs.
