Will these 17" rims fit on my first gen taco without spacers?

    I currently have 16" rims on a 1998 SR5.

Will these 17" rims that came off an 09-14' Tacoma fit my 98 Taco without spacers?

My friend is letting them go for $100

    thanks in advance.

*most tire sizes will fit. You will need spacers with 12.5 wide tires though

Asking if the rims will fit. Going from 16' to 17". Tires should be equivalent to what I have now.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Any Tacoma wheel (wheel that has ever come standard on any Tacoma) will fit a 1st Gen Tacoma.

Unless you have Tundra brakes... then you have to have a minimum 16 inch wheel. (and some of the 16 inch steel still wont work)

The conflict is that dude is wrong.

There is absolutely no wheel that has ever come standard on a Tacoma (1st Gen Tundra, or 3rd Gen or later 4Runner) that will not work on a 1st Gen Tacoma.

    Yes I am quoting myself...

For clairification... we're talking 6 lug.

I just forget that 5 Lug Tacomas even exist.

He (Chris Linn) has a point when he mentions offset. The wheels you are asking have a higher backspace than your stock wheels. This brings them in closer to your suspension. Stock 1st Gen wheels are approximately 4.5" backspace. 2nd/3rd Gen wheels are approximately 5.25" backspace.

You'll most notice it at the top of the steering knuckle @ upper ball joint. Not much room at all. You'll also scrub the frame at full lock.

Nothing says you can't run them - many do, hell... I did (well, the 2nd gen off road wheels until I got tired of the tire scrub). Just keep in mind they are in fact different than your stock wheels.

For more information on backspace and wheel offset, see the following links:

This is correct. I have two sets of 2nd/3rd gen wheels that I run. Same numeric size for the tires (265/75/16's), mud tires do scrub the frame at absolute full lock, all seasons that I run in summer do not.

Yep, it sucks. I really liked the look of the 2nd/3rd Gen off-road wheel paired with the FJ center cap but I just wasn't happy with how much it brought the tire in.

Oh well. Decided to go with the 3rd Gen Limited 4Runner star wheels - at approximately 4.625 backspace, they do the job.

Such 5 lug hate... Not only do they exist but, in today's liberal society, they can even coexist in the same family without racism or judgement! Inter-lug 5/6 relationships are socially accepted now..

Find out the backspace. Not sure what it is to be honest. If it's more than 4.6....

I don't mind that it brought the tire in. I prefer that the mud gets caught in the wheel wells, rather than flung all over the truck.

Those T4R wheels are one of my absolute favorites, of all the factory wheels.

The distance from the edge of the tire to the UCA/ball joint will remain the same no matter the lift. And when I had a set of 2nd gen wheels, I couldnt get a fingernail between the tire and the ball joint. I would run skinny tires if I wanted to go bigger diameter. But that would look really goofy haha. Trust me, its quite noticeable with how far in they sit.

"bolting up" and "fitting" are two different things, really.

Yes, any 6 lug Toyota truck wheel will bolt up, they are all 6 on 5.5 bolt patterns.

But they all have different backspacing, too. Tons of people have used 2nd/3rd gen wheels on their 1st gens and they work fine for the most part, as long as you are careful with your tire choice.
