Nice! I have a feeling it will work. It looks like all those 5lb hoppers should have the same dimensions. We’ll see. Keep us posted

I wasn’t planning on making anything tonight. But after looking at some of the pics here, I stopped by the grocery store after work.
Lobster, prime ny strip and prime ribeye. One reason why I use the pit boss more and more. Plug her in and go!!

Here you go. There is a Jack Daniels cooperage about 35-40 minutes from me. This guy's location is about 35-40 minutes from the cooperage. I have zero idea if he has anything to do with them or not, but he's still out there.

That's not a bad burn rate really... What's the air temp and what temp you cooking at?

Sounds like a good reason for a road trip... Probably fit 4 barrels in a DCSB?

It varies... Going by previous cooks and how long it took me to go through the first bag. Right now it is 14° and dropping if I wanted good metrics would clear the hopper, weigh the pellets, and measure leftover pellets. Oh screw that I just mixed another drink ;)

Could use the Genesis for the meatballs and little smokies I am doing now but would have to use a smoke tube for the gasser. To be honest seems like the pellet smoker smoke flavor just isn't as intense as using charcoal and wood. Same as using a pellet tube or tray on the gasser. But still is good... Don't quite know why, my jackets and clothes sure smell like smoke after doing a cook. It is just not to the same level as with charcoal and wood chunks.

Seems like most of my cooks I am doing with the pellet pooper are running around 250° with ~10-15 min. warm up. And of course 500+ for searing and cleaning. Discovered the other night there is no 275 it jumps straight to 300 from 250. Because it is not PID controlled that makes sense. But it works for me so far. And don't have to mess with as much ash as charcoal, huge difference there. 10+ out of 10 for convenience, even compared to the ATC on the WSM.

Shit, did I just say that out loud?! Time to go out and light fires. Oh wait I just turn the thing on :D

Welcome to the dark side.. and you jumped in with both feet!

I understand exactly what you mean about the smoke taste vs the smell on the clothes etc!

I think your burn rate is acceptable and the ease of use more than makes up for anything else!

Enjoy it and the naysayers will learn! Haha

I was counting pellets in a bag to determine price per pellet. Lost count after 10. ;)

I buy a 40 pound bag for $14.96 (Pit Boss Competition blend) that's 37 cents a pound... I'm ok with all that. IIRC propane costs more than that... Not sure the burn rate on propane but at the end of the day none of that matters.

I've chuckled at every single one of your positive post on your new pooper. Again, I've never claimed to be any type of pro or expert, but I've been smoking proteins for closer to 40 years than 30, and ran "most" types. These new fangled pellet grills are simply cheating. I have a few buddies that love tinkering with temps and dampers etc: and they turn out excellent product, they just seem sleepy or tired the next day as I've sleep all night, not worrying.
Now I've never even remotely cooked in temps you deal with, but I still say wind is worse than temps on fuel use/maintaining proper temputure. I rolled my shit into the backyard behind the shop my last cook, just to knock off the north wind, it was a bone chilling mid 40's...… LOL
