I chatted @Shmellmopwho ’s ear off before buying my dies and I also have the 6.5” CLR. I might be getting a few more sizes as part of my aggressive shop expansion this coming year.

Pretty much all our bends are either 5D or 9D bends at work. But this is also for fluid and air systems with often schedule 40 type materials so bit different than other Fab work

Thanks guys for the responses. This does make a little more sense to me now with limited spaces on certain things needed. I'm still not positive on which I will buy or maybe both haha. Cant have to many right? Appreciate the help guys

So let's just say for sliders or a front hoop on a bumper I would want a 6.5" clr? Roll cages I would want smaller for sure.

That's what I took from the earlier post.

Roll cages you'd have to double check rule books but if I remember right most fall into a 3xOD for minimum bend radius (for 1.5 stuff)

Roll cages are not a venue I have any desire to get involved in.

The liability issue really does not bother me, but if there was a fatality involved with some of my work, I'd never stop wondering what I could have done to prevent the incident.

    Sometimes it's a curse having a consciousness.

    Amen! Lol

Eventually I want to build an ultra 4 truck. But it will be for me and not a customer.

While weight is the enemy, over bracing a cage is never a bad thing

Tell me if I'm right or wrong. The 6.5" center line radius you only really see if you do a 180* bend. It would be 6.5" from side to side. But like a 50* bend is going to be the same pretty much regardless of the clr. Am I right or wrong for thinking this?

Roll cages are one of those weird things where if following an organizations rulebook (like nhra or scca) they are pretty hard to not do right. Hard to make look good...yup! But the rule books spell out everything that's needed.

Fire is honestly what scares me with the faster cars. Start flowing so much fuel and so easy to have a fire.

It will be seen in all of your bends. I think you are also getting radius confused with diameter.

Thanks! The box is 14x14x7 so primarily to haul fuel cans once I find some that I can lock closed but it can fit plenty of other stuff (mainly ammo cans for extra storage when I need)
I can do that! I’ll get some more tomorrow in the light but here is what I got now. No amazing Looking welds but strong enough for me

Weld strength of a harbor freight 125 flux core (same as the 90A from my research, just the newer model) - it bent 1/4 plate when I hammered on it instead of breaking the weld so I am happy enough.
