Never had a bad injector in 600,000 miles but I run 92 octane. Could be bad or plugged I guess

I've heard its a very uncommon problem. I'll see if I can hear it ticking with a screwdriver tomorrow. Got to finish that compression test and check the O2 sensor as well.

    Happy new year!
Yesterday morning I did some more work - got the compression in all cylinders:
    1: 195, 3: 180, 5: 195
    2: 195, 4: 180, 6: 180

And I took a look at the PCV valve, its not blocked up but it is a bit charred on the inside. I also ohmed out the #1 and #3 injectors again while I had the air intake off.
    #1: 15.9 ohms
    #3: 36 ohms

Looks like its the #3 fuel injector

    Compression numbers look healthy.
Nice detective work and troubleshooting on finding that resistance discrepancy on that coil on that injector. Fingers crossed that's the only thing you're looking at:fingerscrossed:
Nice job not just firing the parts cannon at it:cool: I admire good troubleshooting

At 90,000 miles I had an 0300 code. I found that one of the (6) injectors had a reading of 24 ohms. Should be 14-16 ohms. I replaced the injector to fix the problem.

Thanks man! Although I did do the coils, cables, and plugs, I do feel like replacing them with OEM was a good move. I certainly hope so! While I'm in there, I think I will replace the valve seals to take care of the oil leak I have, at least the gasket kit is a cheap part!

Did you replace all of the injectors at the same time when you did it? And did you go with reman or new OEM injectors?
    Thanks!

I've been chasing similar problems on my '95 3.4.

Did the the plugs and coils. Still getting misfire. Traced to injector #1. Replaced it with OEM ($$ ouch). Then got lean code. Cleaned the MAF.
Also reassembled the shitty K&N CAI. It wasn't fitting together too well.
Reset the ECU with a battery disconnect.

    No more lean condition.

    Now I've got a misfire on #5.

Somebody suggested a bad fuel pump. I did run a can of 44K through her back when all this mess started.

My vac hoses are pretty crusty. Time to tackle them before I go back in after yet another injector.

Good luck to the OP. These problems are such a PITA.

@alexvallorosi - Being an over-cautious 76-year-old who does a lot of camping alone in some of the remotest parts of Utah and Nevada, I value reliability. For $185 post-paid I bought and installed a set of six rebuilt and tested injectors. Didn't have to return my old ones. YMMV.

After watching Timmy the Toolman's video about replacing injectors, I installed them myself at the same time. I bought the injectors from a place in Canoga Park, CA.

@ace_10 - You'd probably be better off replacing the five injectors that you didn't replace when you replaced the 6th one.

Awesome report man. I was wondering how much that increased resistance on that coil in the injector would affect firing/misfiring. I've heard of others replacing their injector to correct this misfire DTC and it works, just hadn't read or heard of someone diagnosing and determining through the coil resistance. :cool:Sweet to have some real world experiences with this for the forum:D

That sounds like a nightmare. I'm going to do what I can to prevent that and just replace all the injectors at the same time, but I can see how it could happen

I think I'll do the same, can you link the place? I can't seem to find them for less than about $200! $185 is a steal for 6 injectors. I'll take the reliability also - I do some camping myself. I just put a roof-tent over the bed of the truck this past weekend while I was working on it!

I remember reading your thread from a while back man! I have a weird memory that way. I never did see what you ended up finding so it's cool to see your post and follow up here. You have the 3.4L swapped into the Toyota pickup before the first gen Toyota huh? Keep us posted on what's going on with yours too hermano

No, not a swap. She's a 95.5, I just got twisted up with having too many Toyotas.
Funny thing is that I don't even own anything from '94 currently. lol

It is absolutely imperative you do not buy counterfeits. There are many counterfeit injectors being sold as OEM. A search here will show you what to look for and what to avoid.

Oh never mind I remember you now. Mr Toyota museum:cool:
I mixed you up with a similar username from a few years ago here. I don't know if that dude ever got his issue worked out. But anyways

    Best price I could find. And again, that's for a '95 3.4.

    Sheesh.
I wouldn't hesitate to run a true oem rebuilt injector that's been rebuilt and flow tested. Some places online even have a little bit of stock where they'll send you the warranted guaranteed rebuilds and you just send yours back as cores after you get the new ones installed.
At those prices for a new injector, it looks like the rebuilds will be the route I go when time comes. My Taco is just a work truck fortunately.

    I got mine from:

    MotorWest Performance
    7851 Alabama Avenue
    Canoga Park, CA 013-4

    Phone: 1-747-888-9768

Give 'em a call, tell them what you have. Ask if you need to return your injectors so they can rebuild them.
