Happy New year!! Smoked these bad boys over night with some Pitfaced spicy and regular. Took forever because I screwed up and bought the boneless butts. They just don't cook the same.

I have the 820 pro from Lowe’s. Went on sale when I bought it for $399. Not too big, not too small. Hopper size I think is 10lbs. It has two plugs for meat thermometer, box comes with one probe. No WiFi o_O:rofl:
    5yr warranty.

For some reason I am moving kind of slow today.. But am also usually in bed ~9, 10 at the latest LOL.

Just went to register my Pit Boss and got a 25% off discount code for one online purchase. But they wanted $14 shipping for the pellet hopper extension and not sure about free returns. Works out to be a wash by using Amazon Prime but something to be aware of if someone is looking for accessories.

I don't think you did anything wrong at all Dan, pretty sure it is the nature of the beast using a pellet cooker. Why some run a tube in it also. And one of the reasons I am holding off on going larger right now. Going to do a longer smoke this weekend and see if that makes a difference.

In that case I would make sure they offer a decent jacket for whatever smoker you get. My little Pit Boss from Lowes does not have one available so had to make one with welders blanket felt and am using magnets to hold it in place. One custom designed for it would be nice, very nice.

Yeah I have a silicone jacket for my WSM also, it gets plenty of use and works well

The only thing about an upright is fitting a brisket on them. On the other hand think they are perfect for jerky and smoking fish. I'm leaning that way right now because I'm not so concerned about the lack of smoke for those things using a pellet pooper and normally use Alder for fish which is the lightest smoke flavor I have found.

That Pit Boss Lockhart may just have the best of both worlds but want to see it in person first and wait and see how it works for others. On the other hand it has a huge footprint and space on my deck is limited with so many grills and smokers. A dedicated upright smoker has a lot smaller footprint, another plus for them.

I use my Thermoworks Smoke on the Pit Boss. Because Wifi :rofl:But have been just running the leads under the lid to the inside. Looking at your picture wondered if mine had a hole in the side also for leads and sure enough it does :anonymous: Thanks!

Some owners don’t discover that probe hole until months and months later. Unless you don’t have one.
Might go to my local wallyworld later today and see if they have the Lockhart there. I want to see it in person.

Mine has 22" door opening and more deep, so I could angle a pretty big piece of meat in there - NOT being sarcastic - how big are some briskets??? I plan on doing one or two for spring wedding guests. Thanks!

For a 15 hour smoke it was nice to just throw pellets in every 2 hours. The bark on the brisket was nice, no smoke ring and lacked flavor but was moist. I have that coupon as well when I registered and I am about to buy a smoke tube now.

What pellets are you using? I always get a good smoke ring and flavor on my pellet pooper.

I’ve never tried those. I’ve thought about trying some charcoal pellets at some point.

Just like everything else there are different sizes and people like @Pablo8 and myself have larger ones that can easily fit 5 full sized briskets. The shelves are 14x22 inches.

Mine has a 60# hopper so it lasts many long smokes and while the vertical can't reverse sear a steak... I can load it up with 15 pork shoulders at a time!

I also picked up a 2 pack of temp probes at Cabela's for $9.99 or something cheap like that. Plugs are the same and work just fine
