What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

The 01-04 is complete plug and play. Horn and cruise will work fine. The pre 01 trucks will have problems with the cruise control. Horn Im not sure about.

 

I have a 98 is why I’m asking. Could care less about cruise I’ve never used it. What’s a good price on these wheels?

I have a 98 as well, curious as to what needs to be done to make this work.

 

Mine came out of the junkyard for $16. I paid another $20ish for a shoe repair guy to refresh the leather and redye it. Then another $20 for the Rav4 airbag. Had to hunt for that as no junkyard near me sells airbags ever since the big Takata recall thing from a few years back.

 

Damn mechanicjon you've really got down into the nitty gritty with the 12VDC stuff! I remember that circuit board you made a few years ago for those lights, that still going strong?

Can't speak for him, but my gf got me the spec-d tuning one's from fleabay and they have been good so far. Prepare for a shitstorm removing the grille to install. Most of the plastic rivets will break, i ziptied mine up instead of replacing; much better lol

 

I didn't even bother with clips or zip ties for years, never had an issue

 

Brand new LBJ bolt snapped. Never even got close to the torque spec before pulling and snapping. Not sure what I could have done wrong. I even cleaned all the threads out to make sure no grease or oil was trapped in there.
Anyone have a thought?

 

That is a bit troublesome. Bolt from Toyota or another source?

 

Oem, straight from the Gilroy toyota parts dept. Waited 3 days for them to ship and now Im down 1 bolt

 

Is it the camera or is that tapered? That's really weird to have it shear like that. You were using a torque wrench and it didn't click? Was it hard to turn the wrench? It's hard to say what happened, but looking at the pics you way over torqued it.

 

Not sure about Gilroy, but in the East Bay McMaster Carr will deliver same day if ordered by 2pm if I remember correctly.

 

That completely blows. Sorry man. If you definitely need something to get you going, I can go out to the storage and see if I kept my old LBJs. I want to say I tossed them but I may have just put them in a box. You are way far out from Fremont but maybe someone is headed down that way. Let me know. Not sure what is open today.

 

Yea its looks like it pulled and sheared, didnt get difficult to turn at all. Two other bolts torqued and clicked fine. I checked with 2 torque wrenches (a click one and a dial one) because I knew something was not right and then it just popped.
Do I have the wrong torque spec? Ive always used 59 ft-lbs for these, never had an issue before

Thanks man I'll figure something out. I'm headed to the hardware store to find a temporary fix while I wait for new bolts. If not Im sure I can pick one of the old 8 bolts that is still in good shape and use it. Wouldn't be the first time I reused a lbj bolt

WHEN YOU REALIZE A PAINT CORRECTION MEANS REPAINTING YOUR TRUCK. Washed the truck and threw on a light coat of wax. Still looks like 21yo paint.

 

That's weird. It is entirely possible there was an anomaly with that particular bolt. The threads themselves look fine, but that would have to be some seriously elastic steel to have them stretch like that with such little torque.

Old bolts will be fine for a few days waiting on a replacement.
