No it isn't. Now you are just being silly. Did all of NASIOC run out and buy Rangers?

Here is the first tune that turned up in google. Funny, they mention all kinds of things they address that have 0 to do with hp or torque.

I have 0 desire to keep googling Ranger tunes.

And it does talking about HP and torque. Watch the video and look at the graphs. It’s called reading and watching the whole thing.

If one is looking for more power out of a Ranger, Colorado or Tacoma IMO they bought the wrong truck. This comment usually goes over like a bowl of pissed in cherrios in here.

If I was looking for more power none of these trucks would make the list. I'm a kill joy, but hey if people want to spend their money have at it. I'll move back home at some point and my truck needs to pass an emissions inspection

    Read..ing?

You said the Ranger tunes were to add HP and torque, I linked you to a tune addresses several other issues with a Ranger, in addition to Hp and Torque tunes. You mentioned OVTune which has tunes for other issues in addition to adding HP and Torque... Yet OVTune is because the Tacoma sucks. The Ranger should be held to the same standard you see. You're cherry picking your facts.

I love the Tacoma it’s by far the best truck but sadly I had nothing but transmission issues and Toyota stated it was the elevation that was causing it. Tunes do a lot of things besides HP and torque obviously but those are the major selling points. OV tune mainly fixes the transmission shift points.

That 5Star tune site is not about “issues”, rather exactly what they are known for, tweaking the system...it’s not compensating for or fixing anything.
It’s sole existence is to make the trucks power plant, which already leads it’s class even more knarly.

My truck has been far.....far from perfect and I don't blame you for moving on. Life is short, be happy man. Luckily for me Toyota and my dealer made it right by me and today I only have self inflicted wounds, or minor issues that will be dealt with in time.

You didn't get that same response.

What I do take issue with is over looking one trucks faults, while hammering another for a lot of the same issues. Or different ones. It makes no logical sense. It's pure confirmation bias in action.

So yeah, you come here and needle Tacoma owners, i'm gonna needle you back. It is the way of the web. It's like, 98% good natured ribbing. I save the last 2% for Reddit anyways.

"The 2.3L EB Ranger suffers from poor throttle response down low."

"In all 2.3L EB Rangers the Torque Converter strategies can be reworked to lock up sooner and stay locked longer at light cruising speeds to also help with economy…A locked converter is power to the ground."

"The 10 speed transmission that comes standard with the Ranger is a big improvement in driver controls over prior transmission offerings. However, there are still some significant benefits to be had re-calibrating normal daily shift strategies. "

"Fuel tables are modified for either better economy or all out performance. Depending on your needs is how most tables are set up. We have noticed on the 2019 2.3L EB that the fueling tables are a little rich in their strategies in stock condition and have moderate delay timers set before allowing additional fuel at WOT. "

So on a Ranger it's a tweek, on a Taco it's a disaster. Gotcha. All of these things OVTune does as well.

I gave you a like for the use of Knarly lol. It should be spelled that way.

Dangle nothing you put up there even though it may be straight from 5Stars site itself implies a problem requiring fixing. Poor throttle response down low is maybe a “problem” but not one I’ve heard of in regards to the Ranger. Easy to see why suggesting that to a person cruising a site looking to make their truck that hauls ass in stock form even faster is just simple marketing.

Im not needling anyone. I’ve been a Toyota fan my whole life and this is only my second non Toyota. I came on here to share my personal experiences with the Turd gen (Not the name I came up with) and the Ranger. To share how they compare and long term reliability. It’s the Tacoma fans talking crap with no personal experience with the Ranger. I’m going to try and be non biased as possible. Time will tell how the Ranger will be. Bottom line competition will help the Tacoma be better instead of resting on their history.

I'm not quoting their whole website, but damn, they clearly list like 8 things they address that have 0 to do with HP or torque. Is some of it fluff to drum up business? Maybe. But the point is they offer a service just like others do for other brands to address "issues" you may or may not agree with.

The New Rangers drive like ass. All herky-jerky with a bizarre throttle map. Not anywhere near the refinement of the F150. Arguably the Tacomas also drive like ass, though I’m mostly OK with mine.

I see the ownership equation like this.

Ranger: Drives like ass, looks like ass.
Tacoma: Drives like ass, looks great.

It’s a clear and scientific win for Tacoma, which is why they outsell Ranger by such a large margin.

I disagree to a point and agree. The Ranger drives far better and smoother then the Tacoma but does have a little jerk especially on cold start up and go. Other then that it’s smooth as butter at high speeds. Ranger doesn’t look as good as the Tacoma for sure but if done up right look pretty decent.
