I chose the DCSB, one reason was because the back seats fold down and make a nice platform for hauling anything I don't want to get wet or stolen. Easy to access rear seat area from either side of the vehicle and can carry a good deal of cargo.
The short bed works for most of my needs, if I have to haul anything longer I have a 5'x10' utility trailer for longer / heavier loads.
Whatever works best, each individual has their own special needs; no right or wrong answer.

DCSB for me I do a lot of wheeling and needed four doors.

I wanted four doors and three pedals, so I had to go with a Double Cab Short Bed. I'm satisfied with it, as I've been able to do everything I've needed to so far. Anything else and I'll just use my trailer.

I have been laughing out loud at this thread, particularly due to quotes like the above. I even decided to create an account to chime in with my two cents.

The idea that a Tacoma with a 6' bed is somehow vastly superior and a "real truck" compared to one with a 5' bed is hysterical. The 6' bed is small by industry standards. And when you get into payload, both are woefully inadequate as a work truck as far as I'm concerned. With the tailgate down on a 5' bed, you can easily haul 8' lumber, so it's fine to grab a few boards here and there. That's good enough for a mid size truck in my book. When I need a real truck to do the heavy lifting, I will hop into my 1997 Ram 3500 diesel dually with an 8' bed, which also hauls trailers approaching 20k lbs.

As far as which truck I want - I am leaning towards the DCSB. I want something that's easy to park in the city as opposed to my land yacht of a truck. When I say easy to park, I'm talking about actually finding a space that's long enough. An extra foot can make it or break it sometimes. And the DCLB is approaching the length of a full size crew cab short box. At that point, might as well get one of those.

I don't like the looks of short beds. I haul my motorcycles around sometimes and they barely fit in the 6ft bed.

I wanted the long bed, but I wanted a MT even more.....still don't understand why the MT doesn't come with the long bed option.

Likely too small of sales numbers for that configuration to justify manufacture it.

:rofl:The idea that the long bed is somehow a REAL BIG MAN TRUCK BED compared to the 5 footer is hilarious. I don’t think some of you have ever owned a half ton, both beds are hilariously small compared to any of the modern full sizes.

I bought my Tacoma for tight PNW trails, tight Seattle streets and parking lots, hauling misc junk away from my properties and carrying music equipment. The short bed perfectly fulfills these needs for me. I’ve never needed an extra foot of narrow, short bed space but I’ve absolutely been in situations where a long bed would’ve been the difference between nothing to worry about and a massive pain in the ass.

Long beds also don’t look nearly as nice stock in my opinion, but a lift, some tires, and a canopy make them look great to my eye. I believe DCSB accounts for about 80% of Tacoma sales, so it seems that’s what works best for most people.

    My 2 cents.

I think the long bed Tacoma looks more like a pick up work truck.

The short bed looks more sporty, Offroady, a little more fun.

aestetically, not a fan of the short gap between the fender and the cabin on the short bed but I could live with it if I wanted a short bed , no issues there.

If you live in a city where you need to make more tight turns and parking in smaller lots and you don’t haul 6 foot things then get a short bed, period. The $300 bed extender can also help aliviate some short bed problems.

if you Constantly haul bigger stuff, materials, motorcycles etc and you don’t mind a slightly bigger turning radius then by all means get the longer bed.

the double cab long bed it’s quite long so it just makes Turns and parking a bit more challenging than the short bed.

Understand well what purpose you are buying the truck for and buy one that fists your needs, there is hundreds of different permutations you can buy the Tacoma in but ultimately “love what you buy”

    see ya!

Go 5’ and borrow a family member’s LB when you need it. I mean, you aren’t a one-Taco extended family, right? Right?!?

Says the guy with a short bed. Real men have long beds. Go ask any woman if she'd rather have short or long...I'll wait.
