2020 Tacoma SR 4 cylinder fine for everyday use?

I just purchased a 2020 SR v4 and now I’m having second thoughts. The SR5 V6 was really nice but $5,000 more and since I’m not really using it for any heavy hauling I figured I’d go with the v4. If I’m just using it as an everyday vehicle and not hauling, towing or off-roading should I just stick with it or take it back and swap for the V6 SR5?

Inline 4, 2.7 litre.

The 2.7 is a well proven motor. You need to drive samples of each before you decide.

And for $5k I certainly hope you would get more than a motor change.

That said, if what you have does what you want, that's all that matters.

 

Second thoughts this early in? The next recession will be awesome if people are this impulsive when it comes to a major purchase

Just taking it back and swapping is not as easy as returning a pair of shoes. You will be fine. The local pest control business uses the 2.7 Sr and they put lost of miles on those as well as haul plenty of equipment. Just relax and enjoy what you have.

Subaru and Toyota got in bed to bring a boxer engined Tacoma to market. Lower center of gravity for carrying taller loads more securely. Also there is now storage space above the engine for stuff. It's a Colorado Edition.

I would be amazed if you could take it back, As noted in this thread the in line 4 is a proven motor, If you can handle the performance I would live with it

 

they told me I could. I realize I probably should’ve test drive each more thoroughly but they seemed about the same at the time. Granted I drove both only about half a mile, stupid on my part. I think I’m comparing too much to my dads Dodge Ram which has crazy pickup and just feels really powerful (but has had all sorts of problems which is why I avoided and wanted to get a Toyota again).

 

Comparing a Tacoma to a ram is dumb. 2 completely different classes of truck.

 

Of course they said you could bring back and trade, people trade in vehicles everyday.
Getting back every dollar you paid on the I4 towards the V6 trade is highly unlikely.

 

I traded my 17 2.7 for a tundra a few months back 'cause i tow a boat every weekend (sometimes during the week!) With that said, if i didnt tow regularly, I'd still have the Taco. IMO, the 2.7 extended cab 4X4 with the 5 speed standard is the absolute best option in the tacos right now. If you dont tow, that is. DO NOT be afraid to wind that little motor out. All the other components of the truck are way overbuilt for the 150ish horses that engine makes. Wish i could have kept it!

EDIT: looks like the 5 speed standard is a no-go in the 18's and newer 4 cylinders? damn!

 

If the current 4 cylinder is anything like the old 80s era Toyota Pickups, you'll be fine. I had a '86 (22R engine) 2 wheel drive w/6' bed for over 20 years. I put 330K+ miles on it and hauled all sorts of weight in it. I miss that truck.

 

I own both. The 4 cylinder SR has a much more refined power train. The V6 is noisy, shakes, shudders, clacks, ticks and the 6 speed transmission is a little quirky. I personally have gotten used to the transmission, but this forum is riddled with complaints.

You have the better truck, but you dont have the ponies. Pick your poison I suppose.
