I have a 2.7 with 285s (33inch tires) and 2.5 inches of lift, some more stuff etc.

It has 72,000 miles with the automatic transmission . Only complaint is the gear hunting and overall odd transmission. Lacks power yes, but I’m regearing soon. I’ve had 900 lbs in the bed and it moves it no problem. Good truck I really like it. I think the 2.7 4 cylinder will last longer than the 3.5 easily. Enjoy it!

Yeah it's definitely a bummer they discontinued it. It does fine for the towing I do, which is only a couple times a year. Even did 20ish miles with a fully loaded 6x12 uhaul when I last moved, was very likely over the 3500lb limit and did just fine. But I also wouldn't recommend it for frequent towers.

In the future, test drive the vehicle a lot more. Just keep it, tear the 4 banger out, cram in a Hemi 572 with matching trany, and you'll run circles around the Ram!

I had a '14 4cyl for 6 years until I just traded it in for a '20 V6. I put a 3" lift and 285s on it. It was a dog but I got used to it. My foot was always on the floor to get it to go. That and the lift/tires had me at 15mpg. Zero issues with it though other than one recall. The only time it really sucked was going up in the mountains to the Grand Canyon. That drive was horrible with no power. 70+ on the freeway pushed the engine hard but like I said, I got used to it. Never took it off road so no opinion there. Never towed either.

Nice truck! How much of a mpg hit did the 33s cause? Debating tall skinny for next set of tires but I drive a lot so mpg means mucho dinero to me.

    not a whole lot, I get between 17-19mpg .

how I determine that is to go off of the stock tires revolutions per minute and compare it to the aftermarket sized tires. It was a 7 percent difference so I did simple math like - 389 miles x 1.07= 416.23 , then you divide that by how many gallons it took to fill up full.

see the computer determines mileage based on the stock tire size. That’s how it reads it. The odometer is thrown off by the bigger tire size and so is the speedometer .

Is there a way to add keyless entry to this model? That’s the one big thing I’m missing from my Ford. I’m guessing the Remote app only works with certain models?

A lot of members here mentioned that its not a big difference in power. I never drove the 2.7, so what do i know.

That 2.7 is a proven engine, IMO it will outlast the 3.5. Enjoy what you got, its a great engine and truck!

    Good luck!

    Too few to list.
Take it back and get the V6 in a manual transmission. Get what you want and will make you happy if you can afford to.

The automatic transmission in the tacoma is a complete piece of shit.
    I drove both a v6 and I4 and then bought a tundra.
They aren't much different in price either.
5.7 with a great 6 speed that is predictable when driving. It is amazing how much toyota screwed up the tacoma with their software.

That is literally the reason I didn't buy a tacoma. If I could have gotten a 5 speed like I had previously I would have bought one... Tundra for me.

Drive it, I loved the shit out of my inline 4 2nd gen access cab. Was sad to see it go, but I needed the double cab for my daughter and have been looking at skiffs, so I went v6 this time.
