Easy there. It is a phone GPS using Torque / OBD Fusion and Gaia apps. It is not a range, just that it cannot be precisely nailed down to the third decimal place. LoL! OBD adapters only put out readings at time intervals. It is not a continuous stream due to bandwidth limits. Similar with GPS signals, there is some lag while moving.

So, my numbers are based on observed averages over a distance.

    Nothing in life is exact.

That's what I was wondering and was going to mention the same thing, mostly about your odometer being off more than your speedo which is likely only due to the variances in using a phone for the GPS, as it could be grounds for a lawsuit if your odometer wasn't calibrated to the speedo so I doubt they are off. I've measured using Garmin GPSes and the odometer is deadnuts on to the speedo.

I would have expected them to be the same but can also understand how they are different since it is not mechanical. It is not a big deal as it is now a known value and close enough to the real value, esp when considering tire wear.

The one place that it has a large effect for me is MPGs. I was wondering about the real reason for the significant drop in MPGs with the new tires right at the time when winter blend happened. As is, with the tires and fuel, I am getting the same MPGs. Fuelly is going to be wrong though as there is no correction factor. Oh well.

The only info that I have from the stock size was that when going 60mph, the speedo would say 59. So, I see about a 2mph difference at 60 with the new tires.

Better yet - those of us behind enemy lines in the People's Republik of Kommiefornia can't even buy any correction device. Our Fearless Leaders have determined it is perfectly legal to put any size tires we want on our vehicles, but we are not allowed to have our odometers/speedometers display the correct information.

I just went from the OEM 30" Goodyears to 32" tires on my truck, and now I have no idea what my actual mileage or vehicle speed will be, or my fuel economy (I monitor my fuel economy with Fuelly). Obviously I can get a reasonably close estimate by calculating the tire size difference by hand, but my point is this is just pure lunacy on the part of idiot politicians.

What happens if you just add it anyways. Do they take your dash apart during inspection?

^^^^^ I have never heard of an inspection where any part of the vehicle was taken apart. I don't think they would ever know, it's just that it is illegal for anyone to ship these devices into California. So I can't order one over the internet.

Damn, can't order ammo, magazines, or speedo corrections online. (Just ship it to a friends house and have him ship it to you, it's what all the cool kids behind enemy lines do)

When I got my larger tires, I found three different values when checking pure P-metric sizing (diameter based on 70% of 265), MFG reported revs per mile for both tires, and observed speed difference (indicated versus GPS). I was splitting the differences and using a 2% correction. I wanted to check against the odo, and that is what made me realize that my odo is different than my speedo. Since we don't have any of the odo test sections nearby and very few mile markers, I logged a couple trips with the Gaia app and a reset Trip Meter. That is how I found that my odo is 5% off and that it doesn't match how much the speedo is off.

The nice part is that at about 20mpg, it is an easy calc in the head to add 1mpg. Same with speeds at 60mph, I am doing about 1 over indicated. That is not enough speedo error, even at 75 for a cop to mess around.

Of course I read that. I thought you were sending a message that the model would work on the 2019+.

I just ordered the Rough Country version from Amazon. It's so ridiculous that Toyota wouldn't simply have a parameter that could be adjusted by the dealer - don't they want accurate odometers??

@BarcelonaTom67 that's crazy that California is doing that. I'm living in Washington for a year while my wife is doing her residency, then we're moving back to CA - glad I could buy the device while I'm out of the motherland. Last time I checked you couldn't buy half the stuff on rock auto either, because of an update to prop 65...

I just received the rough country inline calibrator - it was really easy to install - took my about 30 minutes, including downloading the software, programming the device, and installing it. The interface is a little old-school, but once you open the calibrator itself, its easy - just scroll down and find your model and year, enter in your stock tire size, and then your new tire size, it calculates the ratio (which matched my calculation), click program, and it writes the data to the device. Then you just have to take apart your instrument cluster and plug it in.

I wonder if anything actually changed, or if rough country just didn't get around to testing it on a 19 yet, so they don't officially offer it??

I've asked, they say they are different but zero details.
