Yall, I'm looking to have my stock rear view mirror changed out to one that has the temperature and compass in the corner. Has anyone done this? 2004 Tacoma

    Tasteful modifications :)
I personally don’t but it seems like it wouldn’t be too hard of a job, you may need to remove your headliner and find a incognito way to send the wire through your firewall to your battery thou. Wiring would be the most tedious of this I think

There should 12v right there for the map lights.

@Sperrunner @BartMaster1234 did one of you guys do a mirror swap?

That’s me. I ran 12v directly from the battery for my Gentex mirror.

I had to buy a brand new Nissan sensor for the mirror. It came out of a 2012 Nissan Titan.

    HomeLink, Temperature, Compass, and Autodim.

Let me clarify: I have an accessory fuse panel under my dash that is only on when the key is in the ACC position. That means the mirror will only be on when the ignition key is present. There are several wires, two for the temperature sensor, one for a reverse light signal (to disable the auto dim in reverse), one for accessory power, one for constant 12v, and one for ground.

No it’s huge. It came out of a full size pickup. But it fits pretty good behind the visors.

My Mustang came from the factory with a regular (boring) rear view mirror, so I found one from a GT500 online that had the digital compass. When I removed the overhead console, the connector was already sitting inside as if the car could have been optioned with that exact mirror. It was as simple as plugging it in and calibrating it. Easy cheesy.

I plan to do the same thing with my Taco, just need to figure out what to do with the proprietary ball-socket mount that's integrated into the overhead console.

Dig the old-school gauge pod on the dash.

Took me years to find one at a good price. It came out of a JDM Land Cruiser Prado. They’re ridiculously priced on eBay.

Also, I did a Gentex mirror swap on a 2012 Camry. It also had the connector there already, but I had to cut it off and use spade connectors since it wasn’t the right one. It had Constant 12v, ACC 12v, and Ground.

The Gentex 453 is a newer mirror, one that is still being used that I installed in my truck.
You can read through the thread I made.

Fits very close inbetween the two visors

Well I think you just unscrew the mirror from the overhead console... then the new mirror you do a glass adhesive button-style mount.

I've done the Gentex mirror add on.
It's pretty easy. I just used a Tap a fuse off the fuse box.
Also, go to a windshield repair shop. Tell them your mirror button fell off. They put on on for free.
The position needs to be low enough to clear the sunvisors when down.
    I'll post details.
