hoocha-moma I've been searching the internet high and low for a good whale gut knife and they got em right here. Considering getting my whale harvest permits for Lake Erie next year... this is perfect

That seems like a pretty good deal for $200. Who makes the tools though?
I have the large 3 drawer plastic case full of tools from Kobalt. Bought it a few years ago on black Friday. Good tools but the case sucks. It's very broken at this point, but I don't have a tool chest to move the tools to.

but are they worth the coin.

 

I bought the ICON deep sockets, SAE and Metric, I would say they compare well close with my Snap On sockets.

Hey, Folks.

I did pick up the Motorcycle Carrier on NYE. Pretty sweet deal, coming in at about $96 before tax. It seems like a good rack, but I may upgrade the anti-sway parts with something like this:

$20 StowAway Hitch Tightener, Anti-Rattle Stabilizer for 2" and 1.25" Hitches. Made in USA.

I checked all the pre-assembled fasteners as a few were looser than the others. I also added washers on the bolts and nuts where the aluminum carrier attaches to the hitch tube. The provided bolts were plenty long enough for two added washers.

Also, there is no lip on the ramp to keep the wheels from slipping off when wet. I had trouble there when loading a street bike into the bed with some ramps that had a taller lip. We'll see how it goes with DS tires. I might need to add some lips?


With frame rust worries, I have been using some rubber on top of my jack stands. So, I was happy to see these and got them for 20% off also: If anyone wants pics of the carrier, let me know. It will probably be the middle of February until I get to test it with a bike.

 

I haul around a little CT90 with that carrier. I'm still surprised at how well their anti-sway pieces work. If I'm loading the rack the truck moves, the rack doesn't haha. Granted I'm only putting about 150 lbs on it, but I've hauled it across the state multiple times with zero issues.

 

I looked at getting one of the racks this summer. I have a Yamaha Zuma 125 moped. It is down in Virginia, and needs to come up to NY. I could use the truck bed, but dont feel like taking off my cap when I want to travel.

I had the anti-sway tightened as much as felt good and it flexed the full way when I walked up the ramp. I'm about 240 now after the holidays. I'll be hauling a 1994 DR350 (286lb dry) that is not mine. So, just being cautious.

I was thinking of loading it the way that you have it with only the front wheel dropped through, esp with the reports of knobby rears getting stuck. The owner had a great idea: deflate the tire a bit if it does. Duh!

I would love to use it in an emergency with my ST4 (about 550lb dry), but I don't think that would be a good idea at all.

Same here. I have a Softopper and will be camping out of it. I'm looking forward to testing it all out.

 

The rack rotates a little along the central part that's in the hitch, but it doesn't move in the hitch on mine. Hopefully that makes a little sense haha, hard to explain. I think it's meant to rotate and tilt a little by design, hence the stiffening leaf springy pieces along the top.

I can't get both wheels in there because my wheelbase isn't long enough. Last time I hauled it I actually reversed it and dropped the rear in and left the front out. Didn't seem to make much of a difference either way but it'll hardly move. I also changed up how I strap it in, with the rear wheel dropped, I just used two soft straps around the handle bars to the tie down points in the middle. Didn't budge a bit.

I have two other bikes, a '81 Honda CB750 and an 2010 BMW F800GS. I don't think I'd trust the rack to hold either of those either...

Moral of the story: good little racks and motorcycles are great.

 

Ah! I didn't notice the wheel base. Makes sense. With the screw clamps, I would drop the front through also.

I am slightly confused, but no big deal. The only rotation that I saw was the carrier main tube rotating in the hitch receiver. I didn't get up on the carrier yet since I was backed partly into the garage for a quick test fit.

The trussed bar / leaf element on the aluminum section acts just like a bridge to add strength and stiffness. I am curious to see how much flex there is in the carrier when loaded. The vertical spacer is a section of tubing. I am thinking of adding a washer underneath for bearing support on the aluminum, esp with that DR on there.


Looking up the weights, I agree that the Honda and Beemer would be risky for the same reason that my Duc won't really work. My plan is to get a used WR450F (about 270lb wet) hopefully sometime soon. I'm hoping to use it with the carrier for camping and such.
