I was looking through some pictures from last year and found these. This deer was coming in until bow season came in and he disappeared for the rest of the season....until this year and I shanked him September 13th. It’s amazing how much weight and horn he put on, he still didn’t have any mass or brow tines though.

Just coming off my 39th season of enjoying the process of learning from mistakes :).
Longbows for me. My current favorite bow is a Leon Stewart Longbow. In decades past I have hunted with Black Widow Longbows.

Hi Wilcam47. To answer your question it's 55#s at my 28' draw. The bow itself is 62" long.

I'd like to hear a lil more about that "out west high country" stuff.... Hopefully if all goes well I'll be heading to CO in mid September to chase elk.

It’s steep, rugged, massive, vast county haha. These are all Wyoming and Colorado pics. I grew up in central pa and the size of the mtn our west is no joke compared to the east.

Highly suggest training due to oxygen deprivation. Lucky for me I’m a workout nut but my hunter partner struggled and he thought he was in a good shape.

Mule deer population is fanatic I’m a lot of the Units you just have to do some research. If you hunt Wyoming need a guide on public. They have some crazy rules for non resident. Lucky my uncle lives in Wyoming and is a hunting manic so he “guides” when we go out. Grandparents live in Nebraska a stone though from Wyoming so makes it nice as well.

It is has hands some of the prettiest land I’ve ever hunted. I look forward to it every year. If I didn’t hate the snow and cold I would move in a heartbeat, but I love the 50-70 degree winter days of South Carolina.

Beautiful country!! Been training since early last year. Some unforeseen things came up and stopped me from going last year. My understanding was a guide was required in designated wilderness areas in Wyoming. You can backpack, camp, fish in wilderness areas without a guide, but you can't hunt. Guide and outfitters can be thanked for that. I do know quite a few bowhunters from northern Colorado that elk hunt when they draw tags in Wyoming.

What's your load out look like, specifically your sleep kit?

All depends on the unit and where I’m at. Honestly where my uncle and grand parents live I can literally get away with doing day trips and get into some really good animals.

When we camp I pack everything in on mystery ranch pintler. Set up camp then use the pintler for my day back and meat hauler. I go super minimal. Roll up sleeping pad from the marine corps, normally tarp tent, and a light blanket. Early season it’s warm, 40/50 at night then possibly 60-100 during the day.

nice buck! congrats! I found a thick beamed buck shed on top of hill behind where I live, never did see the buck. I think many die of old age here...rather than shot since a lot go nocturnal...

Got a late start to hunting this after noon. Didn’t see any deer, but I had a hog come within 20yrd. I just couldn’t get a clear line on it.
I bought this small pop up blind for $20 from Wal-Mart. It’s perfect for leaving on public land for a week at a time. Don’t mind if someone steals it.

I hope this guy shows up during daytime while I’m hunting. We have till the 15th for archery then the season is over.
