Interestingly enough, I've seen less worse deploy ABs. Just curious if the bumper influenced that at all. I've heard the ARB is supposed to integrate with the AB system better than any other armored bumper.

Interesting. I guess it just depends. I have heard that it takes angle, impact force, speed, among other things into consideration.

Yeah ARB is supposed to be the only bumper on the market that is certified to not alter the crash line/air bag function of the truck. Supposedly it's a requirement for all bumpers in Australia.

This is correct. It takes at least two sensors going off to get an airbag to deploy. Usually rate of deceleration, impact force, where the impact is, etc.

pretty much any and all "offroad" mods need to get bought off before it is road legal again

Our airbags are based on G-sensors so there isn't really anything to integrate. ARB may have some extra crumple features built in, but in reality, they are one of very few that was willing to shell out the extra coin to get them tested/certified and have the papers to show for them.

ARB's are fairly tough. I did same with my Gen1 ARB, rear ended someone on freeway. About the same set of circumstances it sounds like. They merged over, then on the brakes hard. Nailed her truck pretty good. Only damage to my truck was a bent ARB crush bracket. Ordered up a new one for $90 or so, and everything good as new. The S10 I rear ended, not so much.

OP, I recommend you get a dash cam so should that happen again you'll have it documented that the driver cut into the lane and stopped short - an unsafe driving maneuver!

I had a bad one on 610 at 59, car literally came into my lane as I was driving by. 12k in damage and rental fees on a Mazda6 that the insurance refused to total. Car never drove the same and after about a year traded the car in for my tacoma

Brought you to the Tacoma at least. 12k damage totalled my old Ram. They gave me in excess because they totalled it.

Man, that's impressive! Good reason to have a decent bumper.

You are not always at fault when you rear end someone, but without video or witnesses to prove otherwise it comes down on you. One reason I bought a dash cam.

Yuppers. Pretty much my point with regards to Texas being cut and dry for fault. Should have added without any witness or evidence.

Even with a dash cam there are scenarios where even if the person is being malicious, it's on you. Had a guy side swipe me while I was merging over one day, there was plenty of room and the guy floored it to block me/hit me, insurance company explained that even with video evidence of the guy intentionally doing it, in Texas it was his right of way. Despite him being the reckless driver, he would have been paid out. Good news for me, my damage was minor (scuff) and he was in a company vehicle and never made a claim.

They probably deserved it, too many people just plain suck at driving! But that's why I got my ARB. I wanted one for a long time but couldn't justify the money. After the original bumper got annihilated by a piece of sheet metal flying out from under the car in front of me on the freeway I had no intention of replacing it with anything other than a steel bumper. ARB had the best price and I've been happy ever since. :)

Without a doubt. Steel bumpers have always been my go to. This was actually my first one where I bought it before my OE one got ruined. ARB was the best price and I didn't have to wait some estimated 8+ weeks that may or may not get pushed out (for some people this is worth it, just not for me at this point). I actually had it the next day after ordering it.

Do you have a cargo basket in the bed? If so, I think I've seen your truck around the Greenspoint area.

I do. That's pretty cool. I dont spend much time over there, usually just passing through on my way back from Dallas. But, I did some work with a customer awhile back that had me over there fairly frequently.

I think a female was driving it when I saw it.

Anyways, glad no one was injured. Hopefully your insurance rates don't take too much of a hit.

Ah, that was my wife. She works in that area. That would make sense.

Sort of off topic but does the Toyota safety sense automatically pump the brakes for you?
