To get back on topic OP We take the truck off road and it does fine but.....we also tow a micro offroad camper with it off road. It handles the load fine with no lockers and 2nd gens have no CC

You can wheel anything really. And a sport is more than capable of anything that most typical owners would ever dare enter.

It is surprisingly easy to get these things stuck though where a locker is nice. I had to use mine last week when I got stuck at an angle between the banks of a creek towing my tractor. I could've easily gotten out with my traction boards, but it was nice just hitting a button.

Yeah I definitely agree it can be helpful in some situations. But the point of this thread was that most everything that comes with CC and the rear locker can be done other ways, like you stated. I’m more gearing this thread towards the people who may doubt their decision to get a sport because they don’t think it’s capable off road, when really it is just as capable. Some people like the guy in the video actually buy the sport instead of the off road because they’re going to mod it anyways.

Some of the tacos I wheel with are Sports. Some have lockers and most have the TruTrac. They keep up just fine.

nice photoshop skills. There’s no way you can really go off-road without CC and a locker.

Even stock tires do ok in snow, as long as they are fairly new. Of course getting high centered on snowmobile tracks isn't good. Winch is very good then. Three of us spent two hours last January getting back out. Luckily one friend was equipped with boards and a winch.
I just hate the high gearing of reverse.

I think any 4x4 Tacoma with proper gear can handle a certain level of off-roading.

I wasn’t too versed in Tacoma’s at the time of purchase so I just bought a sport but I if I could go back in time I would get an off road. The Offroad seems to offer more bang for your buck, slightly better suspension, CC and lockers. All we get with the sport is the fake hood scoop and color keyed flares,( mostly cosmetic stuff)

the good thing is that I won’t be doing much off-roading so I’m fine with the sport.

Regardless, Tacomas are a thing of beauty and we are all lucky to own one.

    peace!

You're spreading false information. The Sport is really NOT as capable as the OR. For some people's lifestyles it COULD be just as capable to them than an OR, but FACTS are FACTS. A 4x4 vehicle with a diff locker is MORE capable than a 4x4 system without. It doesn't matter how many Sport appreciation threads you create to try and support your new discovered love and defense of the Sport. We get it. Sports are good enough for you and most people's needs, but to pretend they are equal is just plain ignorance.

I own a sport but I must agree. the sport is totally 100% fine with my lifestyle but if I was a serious off roader the choice would be obvious:

    A DCSB 4x4 OR.

I don’t think it was said anywhere in this thread that not having a locker is more capable than having a locker or that the sport is more capable than the off-road or that they are even equal. What was said was that the sport is still plenty capable off-road. (Which is true)

Um can you read what I quoted from the OP? Let me put in quotations for you then.

"I’m more gearing this thread towards the people who may doubt their decision to get a sport because they don’t think it’s capable off road, when really it is just as capable."

He said its JUST AS CAPABLE.
