    Well, it does strip rust, but I sure as hell wouldn't use it on anything I was planning on cooking with.

    Stick with steel wool/steel scouring pad, dish soap & elbow grease. Or that stripping wheel if/where it's really bad.

    Molasses is a great rust remover. Look it up.

    Right, something like 8-1 water-to-molasses. But you've got to let it soak, and something that size would take a lot of molasses and patience.

    vinegar also works....could soak it cocacola over night that would strip it ;)

    I find acids like vinegar and such to be a little less forgiving on items. It seemed to work better on some spots, like too much, when it did not work so well on others. I use citric acid and (white & apple cider) vinegar, A LOT, but I have to watch it more.
    I keep patience in my toolbox, and use it often.

    Any solution that is warm will work faster. Hot will work even faster.

    On that grill I would just use soap and water and a strong brush. Then season.

    How cool is that? Great find!

    I'd use the 'ol wire brush method. It'll take some time, but can knock down some uneven spots and let's you address all of the rust spots. Gives a little sense of accomplishment, too.;)

    How long does this bad boy need to sit in vinegar? There's two rusty spots that can't be removed with a wire brush..

    Seriously! Just finding this thread now as well.

    I love my cast iron..it's all I use other than one nonstick that is great for scrambled eggs. I'll try and post some pictures up later. Most utilitarian cookwear ever!
