What’s wrong here?

I test drove a 2009 V6 4WD TRD shortbedwith 217k on it today. There were a couple issues that I’d like clarification on.

1. There is a hole in the dash and I’m curious about what’s missing. I’m guessing the aux input. Where do I get a blank or USB to fit there.



2. The overhead info system is inop. Is it something that is generally fixable. I know anything is fixable with enough cash. I guess I’m asking if this is common.

3. Best source for seat covers.

4. Beside the cheap wallyworld crap, what’s the best way to fix the covering on a worn steering wheel?

5. Are front struts difficult to replace?

6. Are the Temp. and Fan knobs backlit? If so how hard is it to replace their bulbs?

7. The 110v switch in the cab only lit up the 100w selection, the 400 stayed dark even though I cycled it a few times. Is that normal?

8. How do you activate 4 low? I stopped, put it in 4 low I got the chime repeatedly with the flashing light but it didn’t seem to lock in. What gives?

In my '09, that's the AUX port.

the temp and fan knobs are backlit. Easy to pull that panel and replace. 2 small bulbs, i think they are 5mm...

 

pretty sure you gotta be in neutral

 

For the 4 low, cant be moving, keep in neutral, press down the brake, and switch to 4 low. If that's what I remember. For manuals, you cant be moving, be in neutral, push in clutch and break, then proceed to 4 low

I dont have the climate control lights, but I have there lights for my dome, map, and reverse lights and they all work great. Only had them for about 3 months though

 

I've been using their bulbs for stuff for years...

#3 - depends what you want to spend. The katzkin is the top of the line option full leather interior swap that will require you to remove all the seats, remove the oem covers and then replace them with the katzkin. Clazzio would be a leather seat cover that slips over the factory seat. Wet Okole is another popular cover option. Depends why you want covers and your needs.

#4 - there was a recent thread by a member that got a cover on ebay. He stitched it on himself and was very happy. Do a search on google this way; steering wheel cover tacomaworld . It will bring you to all relevant threads here. That's the best way to search for anything here.

#5 - how mechanically inclined are you? Do you have a pretty complete set of basic tools? Do you have a place to work? As the linked vid shows, it's not real technical. If your not sure if you can do it, find the local forum section and post there. Always members willing to lend a hand for beer/pizza/handshake just because this place is so awesome. Under your screen name add your location, maybe someone will chime in and offer to help.

 

Thanks for the welcome. I'm fairly technically inclined, I fix airplanes for a living. The scariest part of replacing the struts is the cost after watching that video.

 

Speaking of costs, something I should have mentioned is the very good chance that the trucks' lca cams/adjusting hardware will be frozen and you won't be able to get an alignment. Even if your not changing height, I'd take it to a shop after swapping struts and have the alignment checked so you don't trash a set of tires unnecessarily. Alignment cam and bolt replacement will require cutting out the lcas with a sawzall and either replacing it's bushings and all the hardware or buying new lcas and hardware. Plenty of info here. Search as previously instructed to see what you will probably be up against. Again, not a technical challenge, but a pita that will add hours of fun to the task.
