Only per the recommendation of my buddy, he said the synthetic line shouldn't be left exposed daily which I plan on doing.

 

If it's an issue of the elements getting to it and compromising it over the years, winch covers are cheap and would protect it

 

Beauty part of the arb it covers alot of the winch so I don't see any harm in it

 

Again, I know nothing. Just what I have been told. FWIW, my bumper's previous owner was running a WARN and a synthetic cable. @2BeersPlease - can you comment/confirm which fairlead you were running. I thought it was this one -

 

I may actually have the whole setup outside the side of my house.

From there, see about getting the winch set up on the bumper on one of my days off.

Then on a separate day, perform the install.

Sure it'll take a lot longer but itll be planned out well.

Working a lot and having 2 days off that are staggered make it all too difficult.

 

Well it wasn't just the "exposed daily" part but with the exception of these past 2 months, I have taken my truck off road pretty much once a week.

He knows how often I'll go out on my days off and recommended I stick with steel vs synthetic unless I wanted to deal with maintaining it a bit more often.

 

Carbon fiber one lol so every ounce matters

 

From what little reading I've done on synthetic vs steel, even steel gets rusty and burred up over time if it's left exposed and not maintained well. I think a good waterproof cover would be the way to avoid element damage on either one

 

But really, talking to you guys made me think out the install.

As stated, I saved those videos and I'll plan it all out.

Winch on bumper, bumper outside and covered, and install whole setup on a different day.

Wonder if you could leave it at the office. Indoors and not exposed while working on it. Definitely not in a carport. Perhaps in the bed under a tarp for a few days until install?

 

So install would be at my house, out in the boonies, where all installs take place lol

It'll be safe being outside at my house if I cover it, will just suck toting it around. I still have extra LCAs sitting next to the house, as well as a bin with cv axles, 4x4 spindles/hubs and 4 jack stands.

 

The irony of having a winch bumper now and having installed it sans winch, is now I want to wait longer on getting a winch because the bumper install was such a pain in the ass lol. Although doing it over won't be so bad since most of the tedious work is already done (cutting and removing the stock bumper, etc.).

I'll probably order one soon, just gotta prioritize a couple other truck things first...ordering a timing belt kit being the most important
