Is a 2" Lift Worth It?

I would buy a suspension that fits your needs but I would not expect a huge bump in angles.

Even with a 3” lift, and 35” tires I was still dragging hitch and scratching front plastic and I still turtle on rocks. The bumpers made the biggest impact but they are expensive.

You won’t be disappointed with a lift and new tires but personally, the tires and suspension are the foundation of your truck. I would pick a suspension you can build around without having to make too many changes or upgrades.

I see what you are saying however most aftermarket coil overs are stock length. They are adjustable to allow ride height changes. My Kings were the same height as my stock struts until I adjusted them.

In all seriousness though, I've had 1 first gen with cheap daystar lift (favorite) that I beat every weekend and never had any issues. Two 2nd gens one no problems and the other
Both running billy/ome combo.

My 18 I took a different route and glad I did.

Is a lift and tires worth it?

For me yes. I don't get to go play very often but when I do, I don't like worrying about getting hung up since it's just my truck and a buddy's Nissan. That said skids and sliders on stock will get you farther then you think.(the Nissan)

Invest in recovery gear( it's what I needed first) so you don't have to leave your new truck overnight in the middle of nowhere.(like me)

Springs, blocks, preloaded coils create lift not shocks.

Read up on suspension geometry.

A lot of people here like ome, I didn't dislike them I just like what I have now better.

And as to cost well............stay around here and everyone will help you spend your money.

I have an OME 2” lift with 265/75/16s and it is by far the best upgrade I’ve done to my Tacoma. Looks great, rides more like a truck than a van, and added the perfect amount of mid body clearance for highway + off roading for me. More aggressive off-roading go for 3”. I think anything more than that gets things goofy.

 

Spell check was the best thing ever happened for me.

 

One thing I don't think has been addressed ion this thread is how much of an upgrade the OME springs and shocks are over stock. AFAIK, the OR already has upgraded shocks over the SR5 (I had a 2016 SR5 previously) and springs are probably just springs. The OME springs are probably just a bit longer and/or have a greater spring rate thus providing the lift. So it seems like I would be basically swapping out equal quality parts for 2" of lift.

Another thing I should note is that I have installed Motown Off-road sliders (150 lbs) and and am debating the installation of full skids (not sure of weight), so I will be carrying some extra weight. But I rarely haul anything heavy in the bed; a dirt bike occasionally, furniture, etc. I bought the truck primarily for towing and just because I like driving a truck over random stuff.

Doesn't seem fair to say "shocks don't provide lift period." I added 5100s with circlip higher only and it lifted 2" on my old truck.

 

I've never installed or seen adjustable shocks like those, but I think the confusion is that the shock absorber part of the "shock" is not providing the lift. The part of the "shock" that preloads the spring is causing the spring to provide the lift.

Hate to argue...jk love to argue. The front 5100 do give the option to lift the vehicle. The rear 5100 no, zero lifting.

Front 5100 are height adjustable. Stock coil springs, stock everything, just buy the front 5100 shock and bam you can lift. The circlip is moved upward to give lift. There are 5 positions of lift from stock to 2". What this does is sets the spring perch higher on the shock. Stock coil spring, just moved higher up on the shock.

 

Coil is what lifts the vehicle, if you put that shock in without a coil, the vehicle will sit on the bumpstops. It's no different than an adjustable coilover. All your doing is moving the coil position. The shock itself only provides dampening.

 

5100s allow you to move where the bottom of the coil sits, thus providing lift.
