Been wanting to install a rear locker in my taco for a while, but also don’t want to pay the expensive prices for an ARB system or electronic locker. Not worried about the drive ability or noise caused by a mechanical. Nor do I want a pressures argument on mech vs. air vs elect. Purely looking for mech options ONLY. Thanks

    2010 4.0L V6
    Axle code A04C
Current gears 3.73 (will be upgrading later)

    What mechanical options are available?

Ya beat me to it. I'll also add the Torsion style limited slip.

Spool is for racing purposes only as there isn't any differential action when going around a corner. Only crazy people drive them on the street.
I know several people running lunchbox style (just replaces the spider gears) they work well. Ran the detroit (replaces the whole differential carrier like an ARB) in my race car it's a good product. There are some driving disadvantages with a mechanical locker on the street besides just the noise and parking lot maneuvers. Think rain or snow they can be not so fun to drive on the street if it's your DD. Puts more strain on your axles. Just gotta weigh the options and see. Also give a call to ECGS linked above. Those guys will surely help with spitballing info off to help you make your decision.
