Pretty sure no matter where he puts it, it’ll be in the way for someone. Too low and it’s in the way of winches, too high and it’s in the way of people with grill mounted lights.

mount it on top and cut a hole in the hood and someone will complain when they are forwarding rivers lol

You are right except that lights aren’t a must in that grill location vs a winch in the bumper location. People can mitigate around lighting and alternate between say a roof light bar/ditch lights or bumper mount. But as you say people will always complain and so the objective for any company is to please the consensus.

You know, if the room is available (idk if it is), a top-mount intercooler may not be the worst idea...

My old Mazdaspeed3 had a TMIC from factory and most people swapped to FMIC because of heatsoak, but everyone who did so was also chasing after more power and doing multiple pulls at the track and whatnot. Heatsoak is nobody's favorite but then again maybe it doesn't matter much for a truck since I'm willing to bet most customers aren't racing their truck and chasing after super fast times with a high number of pulls lol :notsure: idk, just a thought.

I certainly don't expect Mat to just drop all FMIC plans and go top mount. Like I said, heatsoak accompanies that plan and this is his plan/design

You’re right it will be , but lights can move, winches really only have one place whether you’re talking hidden or a complete bumper.

There is room for side mounts, but definitely bad idea for off roaders.
Scrape the side of the front bumper hard enough, damage or puncture the intercooler and you're screwed

    So, few things.
    1. The current design is the design. There is not enough room to fit a good intercooler just behind the grill. Those pictures of other intercooler show ones that are very thick, but have less cooling area. Thicker intercooler are actually less capable at removing heat than larger, thinner ones.
The only thing right now that is under redesign is the intake.

    2. The powermax turbos wastegates are in a different location slightly. Just enough to get in the way on the passenger side. We have some hardware on the way to fix this for testing, but it won't be here until Monday. So no dyno this weekend.

We will CNC our own Watergate bracket for the released kits.

The first TT kits will be for AT only correct? Any estimated timeline for a MT TT kit?

Let's just quit playing around and agree a rear mounted radiator and intercooler combo with supercharged electric fans behind the cab ontop of the typical mid-height bed racks on these overlanding Tacomas is a good idea like an apocalyptic race truck from Mad Max.

It will be for both. Although if I can't find a MT that I want I may offer a test kit to someone. Likely one of the outstanding MT testers from before who have worked with us all this time. But the kit will fit both right from the start

Since your boosting in such a small number, why not reduce the thickness of the intercooler and piping diameter?

Everyone that wants a winch can use a rear mounted one. Problem solved!

Because it won't be capable if/when boost gets turned up.

Fair enough. Looking forward to constructive input/direction for those of us shoving it behind the grill because of our winches.

A horn relocate would be fairly easy and you might be able to just flip the oil cooler and use the same mount with extended lines or just modify the mounts. You could probably free up enough room to move the IC up a couple inches if necessary. I feel like this is being made out to be a bigger issue than it really is.
