I purchased a 2020 Tacoma in November after trading my GMC Canyon. The Canyon had a built-in bumper step making climbing into the bed much easier. I learned about the Bed Step and decided to purchase one. I was able to buy it for $165 from a Toyota dealer in Long Island. I called my local dealer regarding installation and was quoted an absolutely ridiculous price of $190 for the installation! I elected to do this installation myself. It is quite simple using a ½" drive, 6" extention, and torque wrench. It took me no more than 30 minutes. I am very pleased with the utility of this accessory and recommend it for anyone looking for an easier climb into the truck bed!

Super simple install too. $190.00 for a dealership
install is robbery! It’s two bolts!

The step built into the bumper has always worked just fine for me and it came with the truck for no added price:thumbsup:

How does it work for you when the tailgate is down?

Lol $190 for installation is a joke. I realize dealerships have set hourly rates, but I'm pretty sure they can at least charge for 0.5 hours for a small job like this. C'mon Toyota!

We charge by the quarter hour at my shop. Of course its not a car dealership, but still, any shop could do the same.

It actually swings out at an angle, pretty much made for use with the tailgate down. Ck my pic, it’s off to the side with the tailgate down, no problem using with the tailgate down.

Just fine I’m 53 and have no issues sitting my butt on the tailgate then standing up. I’m sure some people want to be quick about it but my trucks not lifted so no issues for me.

Does it hang down enough you would be worried about ripping it off?

It sits higher up than the hitch so I wouldn’t be worried. Also the spring is quite stout, no worries about it accidentally deploying. The only problem that I could see would be if you forget to fold it up but it only takes a tap and it springs back into the folded position.

Switched over from the other GM twin myself. I loved those little bumper steps, and love this one too. I don't need to stretch or bend the way I did when I was 20, and my kids gladly climb up to reach anything that ever rolls back, so it's perfect.

I noticed some new Tacomas on the lots had them when I was looking to purchase mine (pretty cool). But I just don't climb up in my bed that much (usually just reach over side) and don't have problem climbing up in the back the few times I do.

Why did you trade the canyon for the Taco op? Don’t blame you, I have seen this trade off before. Lol.

The step works great for my kids to get in and out. We go dirt bike riding so it’s helpful to get in and multiple time loading and unloading bikes/gear.

I found a bully hitch step at the Goodwill and modified it to slide inside the crosstube of my hitch. I welded in a spring pull-pin to lock in/out. I think I have ~$30 in it.

I actually was very fond of my diesel Canyon, but after 3 years and 29,000 miles, the transmission began to "slip". My wife and I felt that it was not a problem we wanted to deal with and moved on. I am not particularly tall, so the addition of a power seat in the 2020 Taco made it a possibility... That and a manual transmission sealed the deal!

Good for you! Before purchasing my Taco I tried other truck including Ford, Gmc, Chevy etc. I wanted to make sure that I was making the right decision. I visited other forums and after reading all the transmission and electrical horrors I went back to Toyota. Best decision ever!
