Still room for +1, likely dog, maybe wife? Let me know, could be interested in the journey. I'm "all the way" down in RI though.

5H 250miles each way highway just to get there O.O Y'all, I'm from RI, anything more than 30 minutes away requires an overnight bag! I'm interested, but I might have to count myself out this year - we want to get a trip into Charleston SC this year. If I'm driving that far, I think I'd prefer to be halfway to there instead. But, it's not a definitive "NO" yet. :) Can I be wishy-washy for the time being or is that not kosher?

Wait seriously that late? Yeah I can definitely be wishy washy until then :D that's almost 6 months away. Maybe my opinion will change. Hell, maybe we'll get to Charleston before then and I'll want to take the trip anyway! Thank you!

    No worries, and enjoy Charleston.

I'm serious about the 'self catered' part of this, aside from campsite size and generally trying not to leave anyone stranded in the woods how many people come effects the plan very little for me.

    To many, but never done
GPS will be running basically Google satellite imaging for this...
Any where we want to go, if there's a trail I can get us there:thumbsup:
I still hate dealing with technology:rofl:

Rich it seriously helps out, been running the Garmin 64ST side by side with Gaia and basecamp sat maps. Haven't been lost yet up there. Keep the gazateer in the back seat for those good camp sites

I don't have, nor am I getting any special radios, satellites, or technology. I do have a CB radio though and a huge willingness to bash down some trails. If @Arcticelf and I don't go wheeling before this trip (highly unlikely) then we will have to be in a group together. I need to see what GMF has done.

Last year I had a Maine Gazateer and Ragnar looking at the compass on the rear view mirror for most of my navigating needs.

Hopefully the GMF group will be on digital radios though...

I run this app on my Android phone. I paid for the pro version. A phone mount on my dash is useful to keep the maps in sight.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crittermap.backcountrynavigator.license&hl=en

You can download USGS topo maps for free, use the app offline with GPS only. I use it every year when I go up to the Allagash bird hunting. Most major roads up there are on the USGS maps, most minor roads are not. I record my route so that those minor roads are now on my maps. I find it very helpful. Downloading the maps is a little non-intuitive. If anyone decides to give the app a try, I can help them with the maps.
