Got a notification today that there’s an upcoming free CRC rustproof offer coming from Toyota! I got a card in the mail that I’m supposed to hold until the official notification come out. Doing so will extend out frame warranty for 12 years!!!

I've already had mine coated with Fluid Film. It’s ready for a recoat so this may be perfect timing.

I’m wondering if they will clean the underside first and if the Fluid Film will cause any issue. I’m not real thrilled at all the better the Fluid Film stayed. My front control arms were bare and rusty after the first really hard rain that I drove in.

This is the second notice they sent me for my 2015 but it doesn't come out of hibernation until spring and all the salt is washed off the roads. It's in pretty much new shape anyways as the truck has just over 2600 miles on it.

is there a model year limit for this kind of stuff?

mine's an '08 and I haven't received anything. Non original owner, though I may be somewhat in their system due to having shown up for a recall (rear leaf spring replacement)

if so, maybe I should clean it and spray/apply some sort of protectant...

The notification covers 2011-2017 that are deployed in “cold weather climate areas” .... that covers 20 states plus DC.

My frame was inspected and sprayed in 2015. I am not sure if they plan to use the same material for yours, but they did not clean my frame first, they did not spray the topside of the frame or inside cavities, and the material is still sticky and smudgy to this day 5 years later. If you DIY anything under the truck, make sure you wear a shirt or coat you won't mind being permanently black as the stains don't come out in the wash.

My concern will be that this stuff won’t stick to the fluid film. If they don’t spray in the cavities, hopefully the fluid film is still in places like that. I think fluid film is too thin and tends to wash off, I guess that’s why they recommend a yearly touch up. I just got notified this week from my FF sprayer that he was running a special but I think I’ll hold off now.

Surely you meant 260,000, or at least 26,000?

Damn, I've got an 07. Guess I miss out on this one just like with the frame recall. Fluid Film here I come!

It’s only a spray for the inside of the frame and some welds. It’s like a wax. They put heaters in the frame for 3 hours to dry and heat and then apply it. Nothing really on the outside.

If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t do fluid film. There’s another product out there that is basically the same lanolin product as fluid film but thicker.

Ccrames2018, I had a 2006 that I sold, the new owner got a new frame under warranty at 200k. Are you sure you’re not covered?

Nope, 2600. I have a commuter vehicle and drive a convertible in the summer if it's nice so it doesn't get much use. I toy with selling it sometimes, I really just need it to tow a trailer occasionally. [mower or Quad]

500 miles a year? That's insane. You've got a nice chunk of resale on your hands.

I was going to do some traveling through the States when I bought it but life changed. It's not like new trucks have actually gone down in price since I bought it, I just about stroke out every time I look at new prices. I wanted the 4.0 over the 3.5 which is why I bought it when I did.

I've never received any notices because, according to Toyota, CO is not a "cold weather climate area." o_O

Based on descriptions I've seen here (and elsewhere) of what's actually done, I don't think I'm missing anything worthwhile. Good luck to all of you are are in affected areas!

Can't get much colder than Alaska. Called Toyota 2 months ago and they said my truck was covered. Never got any letters so they said they'd send me one, but never did. Truck looks good so not too worried.
