Seems like every time there's supposed to be a meteor shower or something and I go out to look...
...it's fucking overcast.

There was one glorious evening though about 12 or so years ago...
Early October out at the trap range. Practice day for the trap team, not a match day.
We shot until after dark with the lights on.

So we close it up, turn off the lights and crack some beers.
Then what?

...I hear you saying..

Aurora Borealis, that's what.

Never saw it before and it was incredible.
No warning on the news, but supposedly they're pretty hard to predict.
And seeing it this far south is very uncommon.

It was a shimmering wall of magenta light with streaks of greenish blue.
Covered most of the sky to the north. And oh it was bright.
Lasted a couple hours and a lot of beer was consumed.
I didn't have a smart phone then or any camera with me, sorry.
