The Taco, I just needed tires, can't drive a daily without tires. They're small tires anyway, just 285/75/16

 

i was more surprised to see the RTT on the LC..

 

Oh, well I didn't want it taking room in the garage so I bought some Yakima towers used and shoved it up there for the time being. I need to build a rack for the Taco still, it has that dumb canopy shell on it right now.

 

Are those BFG KO2s?

 

@drr any more feedback on the 80 series axle? Pretty sure that's what I'm going to pick up at this point.

Also - mind sharing what you paid for it? I see a couple on car-part for $350, but minimum for 3 hours away.

I'm getting a little gear noise at higher speeds, I might pull the 3rd and re-check backlash and preload. I wouldn't normally be so cavalier about pulling the differential, but I don't even need to take the wheels off or disconnect any brakes lines for it, so why not. Other than that, break in is going well - it has a very slight shudder on takeoff but otherwise no vibrations at all.

I wouldn't say the brakes are a night and day difference, but they're at least as good as the drum brakes. The Tundra brakes up front and discs in the rear are asking a lot from the stock 13/16" master cylinder.

I would say $350 is a pretty decent deal, I overpaid for mine ($500) but it was literally the only one I could find in Washington or northern Oregon. It was also in good shape (still had the links attached and everything) so I felt good about the condition. Are the ones you're looking at open diffs or have the e-locker?

Only looking for open diffs that I would toss an ARB in.

I was told to stay away from the elocker units. Besides the price being substantially higher, I was told that they could have an issue which would result in grenading the locker or axle shaft and then not being able to pull the 3rd out.

 

I left the upper and lowers at the junkyard, no room in the truck for em haha. I still have the panhard though, was trying to think of something to use it for.

 

Yeah don't get an elocker one. You wouldn't be able to find one anyway, but still don't get one. I got chromoly ones just to avoid that issue on mine since the splined section is longer and likely to twist there if bound up hard on large tires or with lots of torque.

 

I'm doing every bushing in the suspension on the cruiser. It'd be nice to do it on the arms and just swap em in. Oh well.

 

Yeah that was my thinking as well. I've known too many people who have had issues with Toyota e-lockers, I'd rather spend the extra money to get something I know I can count on.

 

Ah, well they're probably still at that yard in Brewster if you want to pick them up next time on your way over lol.

Funny enough, I've head of, and seen 1st hand, several issues with ARBs, but my elocker has always worked perfectly.

This issue I was talking about is exclusive the the 80 series, and isn't the same issue you hear of on our tacos with the actuator/engagement.



Speaking of which, @m3bassman if I do get this other axle, I've got a perfectly functioning elocker actuator I'll be selling. Also - do you still want this steel winch cable that's taking up room in my garage?

 

I have a T100 master cylinder and and booster it'll bolt too if you want.

 

We tried that combination, remember? Although who knows, maybe it'll work now with the extra volume of the rear calipers.
